problem with my JVC camera?

I am using my mom's JVC GR-DVL 9500 digital video camera. I can't the device to show up in windows movie maker. I have a cable that hooks up to the DV in/out and a hole under a card drive on her Toshiba lapto. Both ends of the cord are the same. What do I do.

Update:

The camera and computer also have an S plug. I tried that and it didn't work ether.

Update 2:

@Lare Didn't work. It used to work before. the ends of the cord have a gold rectangle with one side slightly curved in. I tried going to Change a setting > cameras and scanners> Install camera or scanner, But they don't have JVC in the list of brands.

the S video idea won't work, the s connector on both the camera and the computer are outputs, intended to go to a TV set. "most" miniDV camera have a 4 pin firewire connection and "most" computers have a 6 pin firewire connector, there are plenty of exceptions, but if the cable you have fits, then that is what should work.
