Maybe if we had our priorities straight, religion wouldn't be a problem?
It's no surprise to me that people are religious--our world seems more focused on making a dollar than the welfare of the species. I don't think that religion is necessarily the problem, I'm more inclined to think the fact that people actually believe the **** would be. If we lived in a world more focused on dissolving boundaries between people across the globe, that encouraged education and self-worth, and truly progressed our means of communication, would religion still be a problem?
What do you guys think of when seeing human progress over the years?
...Exactly?

To help dissolve boundaries between people, we'd be better off without religion, because one of its functions is to divide us.
Religion was behind:
The inquisitions
The crusades
The Holocaust
The book burnings
The heretic burnings
Human sacrifice (including that of the mythical Jesus)
Countless wars in the name of religion
Backing of the institution of slavery
Hindering of science
Hindering of medicine
Hindering of social advancement
Hindering of education
Backing of slavery
Subjugation of women
Child rapes by religious leaders, and the cover-ups
9/11
Suicide bombings
...and much more.
I'd like to prevent repeats.

Fanatical Jihad type of Islam is a problem. They don't care about borders either for they want to take over the whole world, kill all the unbelievers and then live peaceably amongst themselves. It would be nice if everyone got along and lived their lives peaceably but, it isn't going to happen in this world.

That's all fine and dandy, but the more liberal minded and educated someone is, the more likely they will have no need for religion.
