Jewish surnames how do you find out if they are Jewish or not?
Simply that - how do I find out if a name is Jewish or not?
Names I am enquiring about are:
Beels
Beets
Hustwitt
I am totally ignorant of the origin of these names. If not Jewish, where do they come from?

Please accept that no offence is meant by anything I may say here - I do accept that my knowledge of such things is that of complete ignorance. Words are never offensive - it is the intention that is important.

I don't know how you find out if they're Jewish or not, but I know they're not Jewish names... to me they sound like names that would be found somewhere on the British Isles, or something like that...

You can google any number of name research engines to find the origins.
If they don't have it then just type the names in (they seem pretty uncommon to me) and see what comes up in the search engine. You'll have to "-" some words as you go along because you'll start to see repeat things. Especially if someone with that name is a doctor/attorney or some other career that makes a lot of blips on the web.
So your search might look something like:
"Hustwitt" -doctor -botox -state -peach -detroit

You find out if those people who had these names (names are not Jewish! Only people are Jewish!) were Jewish by looking into the Birth Certificates or marriage contracts of their ancestors. Or you look up where they were born and ask the local church and synagoge, if they were members.
But I never met a Jew with one of the names above.

If your last name ends with "Stein" you can investigate or search records to see.
The first two are Old English and the second is English.
