  • Scotney Mansion, Isle of Wight, England, does it exist?

I was given this address for a Romany Life Centre but if I Google it or do a search of any kind nothing comes up. Does anyone know if this place actually exists, or if there is a Romany Life Centre on the Isle of Wight at all? Was hoping to go and visit this summer.

  • social services are pushing for our grandchild to be put up for adoption, how can we stop this from happening?

unfortunately my son has his head firmly in the sand, although he proclaims to want to do something about it. Social services have slammed us as a family because we have had some problems in the past. But they are just that, in the past. I had post natal depression, they are claiming I have a "history" of mental illness!!! I have five children, it happened after the last pregnancy, I did not have problems with any of the others, and my twins are now eleven years old!!

Any other problems we may have had were connected to this. This is now long in the past.

We feel we have been deliberately pushed out of the way, to make it easier for them to take the baby away. All of the assessment reports regarding the parenting ability of both mother and father have been positive, the problem is they are both very young. Mother of the baby is under age and her mother plays a great part in this situation arising in the first place. (yes I know it takes two, but she allowed the two of them to sleep together under her roof.).

Now they are saying because the father of the baby and the maternal grandmother do not get on this "could" be emotionally detrimental to the babies well being.

My argument is therefore should we take half the populations children away from them because their relationship with the in laws "could possibly" be detrimental to the well being of the child!

Help, what can we do. Somebody must have some ideas.

There is a little girl in my school that eats this glue!!!

Now I know it won't hurt her, but I was curious, is there something in there that she craves, or simply likes the taste of.

  • how soon after the birth of a baby can a DNA test be done?

I live in the UK. My son's girlfriend has just had her baby, my son wants to have his name on the certificate, but there is doubt as to whether or not it is his child. The doubt has been caused by her mother, who is not a nice person and throws in unpleasant comments just to stir things up. I need to know, I haven't seen the baby yet, circumstances have "let me off" so far. Until I know I am afraid to make any kind of connection with the child. I can not "bond" with this child and continuously have her mother throwing accusations in the air, I would find it to upsetting, also I have other children to think of, I can not allow them to get close to the baby and then have it ripped away, that would be cruel. My son's girlfriend has agreed with me that we need to get this test done to stop these things being said. So what do we do now?

  • Can anyone tell us anything about a record recently purchased from a boot fair? It is a 78,?

It has a white label apparently stuck over a black and yellow Brunswick label, on the white label is stamped "SAMPLE RECORD NOT FOR SALE" and typed in red and black "You Make Me Feel So Young" Frank Sinatra. the other side is stamped "SAMPLE RECORD NOT FOR SALE" and typed in red and black "How About You". One of the white labels has been nibbled by slugs/snails so that you can just see part of what appears to be the Brunswick Label with the song title written in crayon. Was this record ever released, I know these songs were released in the late 50's / 60's on the album "Songs For swinging Lovers" but that is all we know. We can not find this record in any listings as an individual recording, perhaps we are just not looking in the right places!!! Do you know if it has any value?

  • why are there so many tortured soles in the world?

Why are some people unable to make their own decisions?

Why do they hide behind things - the bible for instance.

    They quote other people words.

They quote from the bible - they do not have Original thoughts.

God gave us our own minds - why are so many people afraid to use it.

I find this quite sad - do any of you agree?

  • Do you think that western police forces are increasingly being used by politicians?

To control the populations ie suppressing demonstrations and generally interfering with personal freedoms and opinions, and are being less used to catch criminals.

In Great Britain these days the police have more power over the public than the police did in communist Russia. Increasingly more money is spent on equipping and paying police officers than is being spent on equipping and paying members of our armed forces.

More disturbingly our police forces are being used indirectly to protect the interest of big business, not the interests of the general public.

Have politicians and police officers that work for them forgotten who pays their wages?

  • My son would like to go and study in America, is it possible for him to do this?

He will be 18 years old in August 2010. He would like to go to Minnesota to study. We know absolutely nothing about the American education system. He has an aunt out there and thought it would be a good experience for him. If it is possible, how would we go about arranging it?

    thank you

  • my son has left home, and I am feeling sad. I Know it had to happen sooner or later.?

I don't like it. I am fine most of the time. then he comes round and of course I am delighted to see him, but when he starts to tell me that he is happier than he has been for a long time, I find it difficult not to cry in front of him. He is living with his girlfriend and her mother and suddenly I am surplus to his needs.

I want my baby back, and I know I can't have him.

Someone say something nice to me!!!!

He left to go "home" about five minutes ago.

  • If asked my religion, I say none, but.....?

I consider Christianity my culture and not my religion. Do I believe in God, not as it is dictated by conventional teachings. I like to believe in the earth and the universe as a whole and we are just a very small part of it. In fact an incy wincy bit of it. Someone here on yahoo answers said, if God is the creature of all things why would he only obsess about humans behavior, I am inclined to agree.

I think that the sooner people realize that we have to work with the earth and that we need it far more than it needs us then maybe things will start to be put right. I can't see that happening though, people are a selfish and short sighted creature, they see just what they need to fulfill themselves and their desires.

I live in a Christian society our laws are based in Christianity and I am in a very general way in agreement with them. You need order, people like to know where they stand, what the expectations are and that they can be protected by the society they live in. (Obviously it is not that black and white, but very generally speaking). People like rules.

So when asked - no I do not have a religion, but I do have a culture.

Do other people of no fixed/recognised religion have similar thoughts?

  • Do you remember Jublies?

When I was a kid we would buy ourselves Jublies, they were just a few pence, (many years ago!)

I was talking about these the other day with my husband and we were wondering why when you sucked them, you could suck all the juice and colour out and would be left with a plain piece of ice?

Can any one explain why that happens?

  • Why is it when I have put all my energy into teaching my children?

what I believe to be the true values in life they have turned out so horrible?

When I met my husband over 20 yeas ago we were both real ling from bad marriages.(We were single when we met). We both had partners that the only thing that seemed important to them was how things "looked". You know, the nice house full of every thing shiny and new, flash car, debts up to you're eye balls. You know what I mean. The veneer to cover up what is really going on. My husband was a social climber and so was my husbands wife. We were both miserable. This was not the life we wanted. My husband was a bore, he gave me "pocket money" and treated me like a half wit. My husbands wife was a serial adulterer and left him for his "best friend" and business partner and took everything he had, including his children.

We worked together, that's how we met. We hit it off immediately, both of us going on and on about what we were really looking for, what would be nice, our hopes and dreams. We were singing from the same song sheet!!

Anyway, the thing is he asked me to move in with him, and then he asked me to marry him. We have just celebrated our 21st Anniversary and I think I probably love my husband more every day.

We vowed that we would not do the debt thing - no credit cards, no loans, no mortgages, no overdrafts. If we wanted something we would save up and buy it outright. We have stuck to it. Sometimes things have got really tough, especially when the children started to come along. But we did it.

We have taught our children that possession's are not important and why should you have things that you haven't earned. What you have around you should be as a result of what you have achieved, not a pretense of what you would like to be.

Our home is secure forever (we live in a council house) no bailiff is ever going to come to my door. My children have everything they could want. They have been on school trips to France, Italy, Barcelona, and quite a few day trips here there an everywhere. All paid for, no credit, no debt. We have two computers in the house - bought and paid for.

We have five children - yes I know probably a couple to many. Things happen and you go with it. My eldest is just about to turn 17 he is mean spirited and at times very cruel. The next is 15 and tells us regularly how grateful an appreciative of him we should be as he is doing so well at school, of which he is, but this is the reason why he should be given everything he wants and shouldn't have to do anything to help around the house! My daughter who is 14 is just an unpleasant little cow, she comes and goes as she pleases, dresses like a little tramp, stays out all night without permission, smokes, drinks and gets up to god knows what with the boys. Tells me that I don't ever listen to her, which is not true,we have spent many hours talking. She makes proclamations, admitting to all her wrongs, promises to be a good girl, I let her make the terms to try and win her round, then she still can't stick to them.

My twins are just about to turn 10 and time will tell what happens to them. Hopefully we have learned a few lessons from the older ones.

We have taught them that people are important, looking after, and looking out for each other. Loving and caring, being honest, respectful of others and their beliefs/feelings. To do the right thing, to be a decent individual that is quite clear in their idea of right and wrong.

Yet none of this seems to have stuck and we have a unpleasant bunch of selfish brats.

    Why is that?

I have spent the last couple of days still fighting back the tears from my eldest sons latest comment, I quote, "Anyone would think you were African, you breed like vermin and live in squalor."

It saddens me to think that I don't like my children, what will they become, I just hope it is just the "phase" they are going through, what do you think?

I have to say that they are all doing very well at school, and everybody who meets them says how bright, intelligent and articulate they are, and how polite and helpful they are. It's just me and their dad that they are so unkind to. I love my children, they just make me unhappy.
