I was arrested in the uk?

I stupidly gave a false name and was finger printed. It was for shop lifting.. Long story. I was released on a caution. Now I need to go to ameica but they finger print anyone coming in. I'm worried when finger printed the wrong name will come up and I will be in serious trouble. Will this happen? Worrying for nothing? Thanks

Since you were arrested, you have to obtain Visitors visa to enter US. You no longer can use Visa Waiver Program. In application form, you must reveal your arrest record and all required documents. Only consular officer can make decision whether to approve or deny your visa.

So, you're going to America on holiday or on a permanent basis?

Either way, if they fingerprint you in America (which I'd be surprised if they did), there's no magical connection to the police database in the UK, so no, there isn't a problem.

The best thing to do, however, is to go to a police station (ideally the one you were taken to when arrested) and come clean.

It is true, everyone arriving in the US will get fingerprinted. Even if you have been there before. But that is no big deal if you have nothing to hide !
