What are the rules about saying hi more then once?

Lets say you meet a friend or two in the hall way. You don't talk that much, but you say hello. Then once class is over, you see them again, and you may see them a third time.

When ever I say hi to someone a second time (especially a girl) I feel awkward, but if I don't say hi to them, I feel like I'm being rude. What's the rule here?

How many times am I expected to ay hello?

Thank you in advance.

Well i can tell that you are a pretty nice dude to know. :) And if i were you i wouldnt fell awkward to say hello or hi to anyone (it actually makes me pretty happy and my day goes a lil better when someone tells me hi) nut i say if you kept on telling someone hi like 5 or more times (IN A ROW) it kinda starts to get just a lil annoying. haha :)

And i say the amount of times you are saing hi is prefectlly fine. :)

After the first hello or hi, a slight nod of the head, slight hand wave or smile is fine, you can't do the hello and hi thing every time you pass them in the hall.

  • There's no rule but you don't have to say "hello" to them every time you bump into them. That's why you feel awkward. Once is sufficient.

Source(s): I have a co-worker who's like this. She'll say "How are you?" a million times through-out the day if she sees you that many times. lol

you say whatever you feel comfortable with, maybe Hi once and if you see them repeatedly you could smile or give them a nod. If you're feeling confused about it, you don't have to give them eye contact every time you see them, then you won't feel you have to say anything. They know you said hi to them once, they can say hi the 2nd, 3rd or 4th time if they want.

    HI!

I know how awkward that can get. You could always use variations of Hi - e.g - hey, wazup?, sup, hello, we meet again (i know it's cheesy) etc. Or you could even use a question like How was class? or How was your day?

    This makes stuff less awkward.
