Yep - about 3 ton capacity (36,000 BTU/hr). Automobiles have approximately the same heat load as a modest size home due to potential occupancy of 5 persons or more, all that glass, and poor insulation. Not many homes are expected to cool down from 120F in a few minutes, either!

The V-belt used to drive the compressor is not going to power a 3 ton AC unit. The "ton" unit of measure is the capacity required to freeze 2000 pounds of water in 1 hour. 1 ton = 12,000 BTU/hr of AC. That is plenty to cool down a car on a 100F day.

In America, British Thermal Units are only used on residentian/commercial AC. The other guy is guessing. NO Way is it that large! It barely pulls five horse power on maximum load. And I'm not going to look it up.
