Nearly all cheques are crossed these days, which prevents them being cashed. Post Offices do not cash cheques. Pay the cheque into your bank account and wait for it to clear. If you have no bank account you will have to ask the cheque-writer to advance cash or postal order to you. That the Post Office can handle.

You cannot "cash" any cheque anywhere unless it is made out to "Cash" and is not crossed. You can, however, pay it in ("bank" it) at a post office.

You deposit a cheque, wait for it to clear in your account and then withdraw whatever you need of it.
