What to cook for someone whose dad just died?
My coworkers father passed away the other day. I'd like to bring her some food, but plan on dropping it at the door so I don't bother anyone. I'm not sure if they'll be home anyway. It's supposed to be 97 degrees here for the next few days- what can I make that won't spoil? Maybe banana bread or a muffin basket?

I know you mean well, and it is nice of you to think in this way. But the most valuable thing anyone can give in a time of great loss is 'time'. Your friend would much rather have the knock on the door, and a bit of a chat over a cup of tea. Give your friend some of your time rather than something to eat.
Don't worry that you don't know what to say, she already knows that, but you and I know that you thought enough to want to do something for her, so you can be confident that you will say the right things once you are in there, because you care.
