My 5month old mini dachshund keeps playing to ruff with our cat & 2 kittens. She has pulled bald spots on ?
Them! Every time i see her bitting and draging them i yell at her to "leave that cat along" so she does till i turn my head... I keep them seperated as much as i can. Ive only had her a month and 2weeks and i have taught her to sit, shake, roll over, and lay down. She knows her name and always looks when i say it. But when i tell her to come if she doesent see a treat in my hand shes happy to ignore me. Anyway i guess shes dong good for her age im just frusterated with her being so ruff with my cats. My tom has a big bald spot between his ears where she snatched the fur out. He want swat the puppy and teach her to stop and the two kittens are just to little. Please help me find a solution because its impossable to always keep them seperated. Thanks for helpful answers.

First off she is a puppy and second she is a breed that was bred to go after badgers and other small vermin so you are working with a dog that has a lot of inbred Instinct to go after vermin and your cats in her mind are the vermin and her job is to kill vermin.
I would find a trainer that can help you in a hands on way to work with this Instinct and her puppy behavior. It is not going to happen right away but with patients and consistency in training she will come around and you will have a trainer close by to help you. No one here can be there to help you step by step with the training. The older she gets and the more confidence she gets the worse the behavior will get. If a Dachshund can go to ground to kill a badger what chance will your cats have.

The best thing (of course) is take him in to vet to see the spots. Without seeing them nobody can tell you for sure what they are. Mange lesions are usually itchy, on the limbs, tail, or face. They are usually red and raised as well. Other possibilities could be a thyroid problem ( although usually these are symmetrical), some other metabolic disorders, ringworm, allergies (these are usually itchy as well).

Some dogs just love to terrorize cats. You really can't get it out of them. They will keep doing it. Just try to keep them separate unless your watching. Hope this helps. Thank you.

all dogs need training, exercise, socialization, grooming and vet care
keep them apart if you can't train and supervise
