What is the point of sock puppets?

There is no point unless they're argyle.

According to YA, the current flood of points gamers are bots. Apparently the idea is to push a large number of accounts past Level 2 so they can spam with clickable links. They're flooding every category daily with new accounts, posting resolved questions, answering with answers copied from the resolved question, then giving BA to the sockpuppet.

Influence. It might be true that opinions are rarely influenced around here, but the greater your publicity is, the higher is that chance, especially among people not very familiar with the topic being discussed.

Some people have very low self esteem and anything they can do on YA to bolster it is a good thing. Otherwise they might go to school with a gun oneday...

I have several accounts so that when I get banned I have another one ready to go.

I don't bother to vote myself up or anything. Login is too much hassle and a waste of valuable trolling time!
