cool area to live on Long Island NY?

I am talking to a company about a position on Long Island (near Commack). what are the best places to live? I don't want more than 45min commute.

I am white, late 20s, single, and an engineer. I really like places where you can walk to nightlife. it does not have to be spectacular nightlife, but something. I absolutely hate suburbs. I want to live somewhere with a city feel. basically, wherever you find hipsters is probably where I want to live (though, i am not a hipster myself). I like art, coffee shops, plays, live music, ect.

I will be making an engineer salary, so I can afford a decent amount of rent. also, I don't mind sketchy areas if they are close to nightlife (I feel perfectly comfortable in Baltimore and Detroit)

also, closer to Manhattan is always good.

Thanks

    No such thing.

Long Island is nothing more than 150 miles of suburban monotony.

Commack is about 3-4 miles into Suffolk County (25? miles from Times Square).

Huntington and areas with Huntington in the name are a few miles closer to NYC.

Huntington has some areas on Long Island Sound, lots of restaurants, some theater, especially in the summer, some galleries, etc.

Bayside, in Queens, is a younger area with more partying type stuff, less cultural. About a 30-45 minute drive to Commack.

If you can stretch your commute, the train from NYC to Commack is just less than an hour allowing you to be in New York City.

    Good Luck!

Source(s): I live between Commack and NYC.

relies upon what section... i'm sort of the contrary as you. i grow to be born on long island and lived there till my senior 3 hundred and sixty 5 days of highschool, & then i've got moved to Florida and that i havent moved decrease back. I lived in New Hyde Park. It grow to be extraordinarily risk-free there, & Mineola, backyard city Park, Plainview, Farmingdale, Hicksville, great Neck, Huntington and Dix Hills are extraordinarily risk-free besides. maximum of it is definitely risk-free and a great place to stay. Its purely like everywhere else, some stable aspects, some undesirable. I rather felt safer in long island than I do right here
