What type of wolf is closest to extinction (e.g. Red, Grey, Arctic)?

I know that they all are in general but I wanted to know which wolf breed in closest to extinction. And if it's not to much to ask, could you also put how long they have been this close to extinction and how many are left...

Thank You, (and sorry for asking such a silly request )

Please, don't ever think you are asking a silly question. That is how all of us learn and increase our knowledge. Your question is a very important one and I'm glad you asked it.

The red wolf is one of the world’s most endangered wild canids. Once common throughout the southeastern United States, red wolf populations were decimated by the 1960s due to intensive predator control programs and loss of habitat. A remnant population of red wolves was found along the Gulf coast of Texas and Louisiana. After being declared an endangered species in 1973, efforts were initiated to locate and capture as many wild red wolves as possible. Of the 17 remaining wolves captured by biologists, 14 became the founders of a successful captive breeding program. Consequently, the United States Fish and Wildlife Service declared red wolves extinct in the wild in 1980. A recovery program has taken the species from extinction in the wild to a restored population of more than 100 in northeastern North Carolina. But while conservationists consider the program a success, many challenges still lie ahead for the species that once ranged across much of the southeastern United States.

A few statistics concerning the Arctic Wolf for you. Queen Elizabeth Island has 200 arctic wolves while Banks & Victoria Islands have 1,100 arctic wolves and Greenland has 75 arctic wolves. These statistics are not that good but the Arctic Wolf is on the comeback. Thanks in part to aggressive preservation societies.

There are approximately 163,400 grey wolves which roam European countries, Russia, Mongolia, Asia and North America. Canada alone has between 52,000-60,000 grey wolves. Mongolia has a stable population of 10,000-20-000 grey wolves.

I hope this helps you and thank you for asking such a good question.

    Regards,

    Warren

virtually any wild animal may well be domesticated, yet in no way completely tamed and truthful. Even a tiger can walk on a leash, yet you does no longer enable your toddler handle it. in case you experience you have the character to paintings with wolves, then practice to strengthen right into a organic international biologist and the two paintings in a zoo or learn them interior the wild. I understand you admiration for them considering the fact that they are fairly majestic, yet I strongly have faith wild animals could desire to be allowed to stay wild and not made into pets.
