Why won't the Ethernet Cable work for my mom's Macbook?
So my family is staying in Paris for a week in an apartment we rented (originally from east coast USA), and my mom and I brought our laptops. We both have 13" Macbooks Pros, both of which normally work fine. The apartment has an ethernet cable so we can connect to the internet, and it (obviously) works fine for mine. When my mom tried it for hers, it didn't work. For some reason, it connected to the nearby WiFi that I needed a password to access. I went to the Network settings, and changed it to use the ethernet cable, but it still wont work. Will it only work for one laptop? Anybody have any solutions?

I think you should go and turn wifi off on her macbook. Then try the Ethernet. If that doesn't work, plug in your macbook, create an account on apple support and ask the question there. Also, if you do manage to choose this as best answer and go to apple support and start a topic, make sure you put the link of the topic in the response. I have an account there and I am an Apple Genius.

You have to troubleshoot. Just knowing that it didn't work doesn't tell us much. Did the light for the Ethernet port come on? Did the computer get assigned an IP address? Did it get a default gateway? Could it ping its default gateway? You have to test to find out where the problem is, otherwise we can only guess.
