Is there a maximum age limit for opposite gender siblings to share a room?

My son is 15 and my daughter is 18, their father and step mother still think it's ok for them to share a room together. Their father recently refused to pay for my daughter her own room (so she ended up forking out £70 herself for her own room), in a hotel and told her that she should share with her brother. I was always under the impression that there was an upper age limit for sharing siblings. Only answers relating to UK please.

Update:

Sorry I just realised how appalling my grammer is in the above question :-s

Update 2:

Just to clarify, this was for one night - her father's wedding. He told her that if she wanted her own room she would have to pay for it herself, but if she wanted it paid for she would have to share.

She doesn't like sharing with him (even though they are close), and has recently put her foot down to sharing her bedroom with him when he stays at his fathers on a weekend.

Update 3:

There is no legal age limit in the UK as far as I am aware, but your ex-husband should show some common sense and realise that teenage years are hard enough without the added embarrassment of pubescent opposite-sex siblings having to share a bedroom.

I believe the only age limits are applied by local housing assosciations, but these are guidelines for social housing allocation rather than law. Tell your ex to stop being such a miser.

Edit: @Penny Lane, as I said, The Housing Act only applies to social housing, and are guidelines for council accommodation, not hotels or private houses. Read the question carefully, it isn't asking about council housing or being rehomed.

No, though as already stated, in social housing at least, 2 people of opposite gender should not share a room if at least one of them is aged over 10 years.

This does mean though, in such a situation as that, some shuffling may be possible. What is a "room"? For the purposes of that Housing Act, people may be told to regard everything except the bathroom as fit for sleeping in. This gives hard pressed councils some room for manoeuvre by asking people to sleep in lounges and in hallways.

The Housing Act 1985 covers this and makes it law that two or more persons aged 10 years or older of opposite sexes (not living together as Man and Wife or Partners) must not sleep in the same room.

You would be guilty of "Overcrowding" which is also an offence under the same act. However if this situation is caused by necessity then the local council or housing authority have a legal obligation to rehouse you and your family.

According to http://www.safekids.co.uk/ there is no law against it in privately owned households. The artical is quite helpful and can be found here; http://www.safekids.co.uk/should-children-opposite...

    Hope this helps
