New cars/new car engines.?

Do you still need to 'run in' a new car engine or is it done for you before you buy it these days?

Yes, but not to the extent you used to have to do in the 'good old days'.

It's still a good idea not to use full throttle acceleration for the first few hundred miles or let the engine 'labour' in too high a gear.

It's good sense not to hammer a brand new car till everything's bedded in anyway. Apart from anything else the tyres need 100 miles or so to rid themselves of the releasing agent and the brakes won't work at maximum efficiency either straight out the box.

You should use the procedure called "power sealing" new car cylinder rings.
