How should I redecorate my living room?
I'm tired of how my living room looks and I finally have the chance to redecorate it.
Problem is, I can't repaint the walls (I live in an apartment), so I'm stuck with the basic off-white. And I can't do anything to the dining room table (my mom is rather attached to it), so I'd like to work the new decor around it (it's a light natural wood colored top with white legs).
I was thinking a cranberry/chocolate/cream color scheme, but I'm open to any ideas.
Any ideas of how I can redecorate? I want the living room to look a lot different, but without spending a huge amount of money.
Thanks!
I should add that the carpet has to stay too. It's like the generic medium-brown carpet.
Yes, I'm POSITIVE that I can't repaint the walls.

You may feel a bit limited by not being able to change the wall color and table, but use this to your advantage. The best way you can give your room a "new look" is to focus on the color and texture of FABRICS!!
New furniture covers for sofa, chairs, ottomans and cushions will give the room a new look and new texture. It will also give you a new color theme by which you can get new sleek curtains. Go here for furniture slip colors that are inexpensive but quality made.

New throw pillow covers are also an awesome way to add a new look or theme.

New lamps, plants and plant pots that accent your fabrics and curtains will also tie the room in visually.
Distressing existing furniture is another great way to utilize your colors. It is easy and inexpensive as well. Go here.

I hope some of these ideas help you! Good Luck!

Hi Jessica,
So U are Ready for a change! Love the color scheme that you have chosen.
First I would try rearranging the room(s) try placing the sofa on an angle. Keep pathways and door ways clear and passable. Store anything you will not be using for now. Bring it out again later when you decide to rearrange again at another time.
Secondly I would start shopping for Window treatments. Long length curtains, or drapes rod top easy style ( cost effective too around 20 dollars) in a deep tan shade. Next on my list would be several toss pillows in cranberry and perhaps a cranberry Throw for your sofa. The dining room table can decorated with a grouping of Candles on an old second hand plate or platter. You can also use an old mirror tray this helps to reflect the lighting fro mt he candles. Framed Posters in a theme you like be it old movies, large floral, etc ( WalMart good resource for this ) adds interesting art work on the walls for cheap chic!
Go to the Second hand thrift store, habitat for humanity in your area and see what you can find that you like! Happy Decorating!!!

How I HATE off-white walls!
Are you sure you can't paint the walls? What if you promise to repaint them before you move out?
Personally, I don't think cranberry and chocolate would look good together -- too dark. What about a medium blue with chocolate and cream? Or beige, navy and cranberry? There is no end of color combinations, of course.
You need to find a starting point. Perhaps slipcovers? You can get great slip covers for not much money at Sure Fit: http://www.surefit.net/index.cfm?sfafid=1306
Once you've decided which slip cover you like, then you can choose complimentary colors to go with it.
Have fun!

Go to Ikea. Ikea basically has everything you asked for. Most of their furniture matches old furniture (like your table), but also has sort of a modern feel to it. Their furniture matches most colors and the best part is the prices are reasonable and good quality.
There's a lot of different ways you can redecorate with Ikea... good luck!

One of the easiest and economical ways to change a look would be to put some toss pillows on your couch, chair etc. and a few Accessories in the colors that you had mentioned either a print, or solid colors. Have fun!

I LOVE the color scheme, I think they would go beautifully together. You could buy lots of fabric and make your own pillows. You could buy an area rug, although I don't know how that would look with the carpet :))) Just a few ideas...
Hope I helped,

i like the sound of of your colour choice
i do think teal blues/chocolate/cream
or green/chocolate/cream
orange/chocolate/cream
dining room table is no problem you can have a table runner, and a vase of flowers/dish of nice potpourri in your colour scheme which always looks lovely and an updated look.
you can get your colour from soft furnishings/finishing touches so............
cushions
wallart
ornament
flowers
rug
curtains
candles
they dont have to cost a fortune but its all there to give you the basis of a lovely home you desire.
check out charity shops/pound shops or places like dunelm/next/homesense/argos/wilkos/homebase
good luck hope this has helped:)

Quickly look at magazines and pull out all pictures of rooms that you instantly like. Then put them all in a row and see what they have in common. Never ask other people what is supposed to be for you. Too many people decorate their home with poop colors.

Change wall papers or curtain. Move positions of your furniture. Put some fresh flowers such as lily or jasmine.
