Cross of Saint George on crest of FC Barcelona?

I was just looking at the crest of FC Barcelona and wondering what the Cross of Saint George was doing on it. Does anyone have an idea?

Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia, the saint patron of which is Saint George, like England and other countries in Europe.

The coat of arms of the city of Barcelona has the cross of Saint George on the left and the Catalan flag on the right:

So this was taken from the football club when founded in 1899.

Yeah its because Saint George is the patron saint on Catalunya (Barcelona) as well as England hence the English flag.
