glasses & contact prescription question?
need help to ask my dumb eye-doctor (im not going to pay 200 bucks again for another contact prescription either, so please just help), thank you in advance.
ok my glasses prescription: (perfect vision close & far)
OD = -3.75 -1.50 x 155
OS = -375 -1.75 x 005
Original Contact lense extra info (8.6) & (12.5)
OD = -4.00 -1.25 x 160 (right eye, more clear, able to focus better close but NO WHERE NEAR GLASSES)
OS = -4.00 -1.25 x 180 (left eye, less clear, able to focus some close but NO WHERE NEAR GLASSES)
New prescription
*Contacts bothered my eyes so had to get a different name-brand which changed the available prescription.
extra info(8.6) & (12.2) says the diameter wasn't important
OD = -4.00 -1.50 x160 (see at distance fine almost HD, looking around a ROOM unclear)
OS = -4.00 -1.50 x 180 (see at distance fine , looking around a Room unclear, but better then right eye).
If I put on a +1.25 reading glasses over these contacts, VISION is perfect close and far.. It gives me the close range to see computer screen & laptop, and read the names of the books on a shelf 20 feet away. Walking outside I can see 30+ feet perfect, pass that i see clear, but not perfect detail (which is 100% fine, i want this vision). Only thing is the RIGHT eye is more perfect then the left eye.
So can anyone look at all this and put together a prescription to give my doc for a test drive !!!
Please.
I SEE BOTH RIGHT & LEFT ARE BEING TREATED AS THE SAME PRESCRIPTION WHEN LOOKING AT THE GLASSES PRESC. IT IS NOT. OR IS IT THE ASTIG #S R WRONG YOU THINK.
MY DOC JUST SAYS HIS NUMBERS ARE RIGHT AND HE WONT RETEST ME.
**AS STATED ABOVE: I cant afford another $200.00 for a contact lens exam**

Your glasses Rx is probably right, but I don't know why they keep increasing the sphere power for the contacts. It should be going the other way. In powers like that , weaker is always better, mainly because of the astigmatism part. Many Dr.s feel they have to increase the sphere power to make up for dropping the cylinder power, but that is rarely the case in powers like you have.
By increasing your sphere power to - 4.00 , they are creating a vertex problem , and that lens is giving you an equivalent of almost - 4.25
When I first saw your glasses Rx...I would have gone for
OD - 3.50 - 1.25 X 160
OS - 3.50 - 1.25 X 180
So, providing your glasses Rx is correct , this is what I would trial for my patient, and 98% of the time, that would work. Now you just have to convince him to try it.
I've fit hundreds of toric lenses over more than 30 years and I've learned a thing or two about it....lol
