Try this ;- Keyboard - top left/hand key.......Esc - press it when computer is switched on.
The reason - it might be 'locked' in sleep/hibernation mode.

I don't know if it will help but after reading the first answer I pressed Fn + F1 and it switched the screen off.
The only way I could get it back was by clicking a couple of times on the left hand mouse button,,
Other than this, ( on my laptop ) there is tiny button on the top left hand of the computer which releases when the computer is opened causing the screen to be active.
Could you have a similar button which is stuck?

"i purchased a HP computer a MONTH in the past" i do not bear in options if it grow to be like this when I first offered it Bullshit, undeniable and straightforward - give up grinding your awl. Vista runs on a similar speed, it basically does more effective than XP. there's a diffused massive difference, Vista isn't only a slower version of XP - vista doesn't run each and every driver in kernel mode (the position it would want to crash the finished kernel if it fails and to that end the pc) yet really has a person-mode job server that can restart without subject (in a substantial kind of situations) drivers which fail. i might want to point that you turn off each and every of the graphical bling and basically run it interior the "classic" subject - you lose truly no function it extremely is nicely worth more effective than cursory aspect out (flip3d) and that is a marginally sparkling interface.

There is a setting on your keyboard that can turn the screen off. it should be the "fn" button with one of the "F" keys
