OPTICAL CONTACT LENS QUESTION FOR FOOTPRINTZ?

(1) Thank you for your reply's earlier today to my multiple posts. Your answers helped a lot.

(2) last question, if I can pick your brain, since my doc is a quack apparenty, and im having to do the work now(or at least sub-ing out the work now)*SMILE*, last question...

if the prescription he gave was (at first with Acuvue)

OD -4.00 -1.25 x160

OS -4.00 -1.25 x180

(8.6) & (14.5)

then we tried Focus Dailies toric 1-day (my request as he is only a ACUVUE GUY)

OD -4.00 -1.50 x160 (did not carry 1.25 so he went with 1.50)

OS -4.00 -1.50 x180

(these feel perfect, no issues, except i cant see clearly anymore except far away, unless i were my reading glasses around the house FOR EVERYTHING in the house).

heres the thing. MY DOMINENT RIGHT eye is perfect infront of me upto down the hallway reading book-titles on a shelf (WITH THE READING GLASSES ON 1.25) 12feet away ->but the left eye is a bit fuzzy, not clear (only a little).

But when i was wearing the acuvue and the cyl # was 1.25 i noticed my left eye (with out reading glasses, didnt really need reading glasses then as long as it was more then 1 foot away from my face), it was more clear on my left eye then my right eye,

based on this I would assume that my right & left are different just a little bit/?

would this difference be on the Strength # or CYL#??

My old GLASSES, before i got this new prescription last month was:(before now, have not wore contacts in over 10years)

My Old GLasses are: (3yrs ago)

OD -3.50 -1.25 x 162

OS -3.50 +2.25 x 5

My New GLasses are: (April 2011) : Perfect vision w/ these glasses

OD -3.75 -1.50 x155

OS -3.75 -1.75 x5

**Note: I do admit my new prescription is better then the old prescription(GLASSES), but only by a little bit**

My basic question from all this above.. You recommended :

OD -3.50 -1.25 x 160

OS -3.50 -1.25 x 180

Since we both agree the above prescription by my doc was wrong, but that (-4.00-1.25) on both eyes made i did see better out of the left eye (still not good, but left eye was better).

And since this other prescription of (-4.00-1.50) on both eyes my right eye was more clear (again both eyes are not correct, but right eye was more clear). Based on that information, would you recommend a different cyl number? or do you think the (-3.50-1.25) both eyes will be so close to perfection, that they will adapt correctly on their own?? I hope you understand the question. I tried to give every bit of information i could, i actually think Ive given my entire optical medical report by now .. HEHEH

Again, im sorry to bother you, but you seem to have so much great information, and seem like you like to help others based on your number of replys on yahoo.. I live in the USA, to far to make you my doc *smile*.

anything you can offer is great.. thank you SOOO much again for the help you have already provided,

When the CYL in the glasses reaches - 1.75 , I have always found it better to drop a full 0.50 from it for the contacts.

Besides, there is no 1.50 cyl in the Biofinity Torics I suggested he try on you. The only Toric with a 1.50 CYL was the Focus Toric, which wasn't a very good lens as far as torics go. They are discontinued now anyway. All other brands go 0.75, 1.25, 1.75 ,( 2.25 in some )

The left eye is trickier and just MAY be better leaving the sphere at - 3.75 , but I place my bet more on - 3.50

He should be ordering trials anyway , so getting 3 of them isn't harder than getting 2 , so I still stick by

    OD - 3.50 - 1.25 X 160

    OS - 3.50 - 1.25 X 180

    Plus another left trial lens of - 3.75 - 1.25 X 180

    Good luck

Before I answer: could you check the "Old glasses 3 years ago" - you've got OS -3.50 / +2.25 ... is the cyl meant to be - (MINUS) 2.25?? =)

Anyways: It's best to work along 2 lines: what is clearest for you today, and what you've had before.

Given today's script of [OD: -3.75/-1.50x155 and OS: -3.75/-1.75 x 5] is best, then it's best if we work a contact lens script around this. The rule of thumb is to Reduce Minus when fitting a contact - so the (-3.50/-1.50) and (-3.50/-1.75) would be better than your duck's (Quack - joke intended) (-4.00/-1.50)'s - and your report fits perfectly - More Minus means far things would be clearer, and near things a nightmare with the wrong script.

Fine-tuning: cyls can be a tricky thing. Even 5-degrees off axis with a -1.50 Cyl would be nightmarish for some people - so the optom assessment is needed. However, 160 and 180 sounds like they're stable for you.

My brief calculations (and Footprints will definitely correct me on this - power cross?) - I'm thinking

    OD: -3.50 / -1.25 x 160

    OS: -3.50/ -1.50 x 180 - where possible by the lens company's design.

If we under-do the cyl, you may notice just a little more blur. Over-do the cyl, and headaches are possible. My instinct for this script comes about: with the -1.25DC Acuvues, your right eye was better than your left, but when wearing the -1.50DC Focus, the left was better than the right.

I could be misinterpreting this completely (as well as the -4 sphere), but I'm thinking more to play it safe, and lower the cyl as appropriate.

Though I wouldn't give as much Cyl as you have in your glasses right now.

    =)

All color contact lenses look fake. But if you really want to try it out, go for it. It's not about your eye color, it's about your skin color and hair color, too. If you have white skin and dark hair, blue would look amazing. If you're a bit dark-skinned you should go with green or hazel.
