Don't woodchucks like lettuce?

There is a woodchuck that has been eating my flower tops and leaves. The orange poppies did not even bloom this year because he ate the heads off of them. Now he is eating the leaves of the chrysanthemum plants.

But he leaves the lettuce alone.

He will get to the lettuce when he is ready too...maybe after hes eaten every thing else that he likes first.

Around here they eat my stinging nettle first and after they are done they move on to other plants, they love bean plants and Campaunula species.

I thought woodchucks just chucked wood.

Most wild animals have "things" they like eating, the lettuce might not be to appealing. Try some nuts. Once you start feeding them you create a monster, I'm serious.

Woodchucks (Marmota monax) are in the squirrel family (ground squirrels) they are rodents. They are mostly herbivores but they do not eat all plants. They do not bury nuts like tree squirrels.
