Is ocean seafood safe to eat since the last oil spill?

I'm assuming it's not. Every time I eat any type of ocean seafood for the last several months I get horrendous abdominal pains. My thought is that the seafood is not safe anymore.

Any evidence to suggest this is not incorrect?

Update:

Isn't saying that only certain parts of the same body of water is polluted as inaccurate as claiming that a smoking section of a restaurant actually contains smoke to that area?

I never had these pains before. So, I wasn't allergic until very recently then. And it's only ocean seafood that causes it. Which wouldn't make sense.

Of course the government says the ocean is clean. They also did not tell people that the chemicals they dumped to "clean" up the oil have settled to the bottom of the ocean and are now killing the reefs and other wildlife.

Seafood is still safe to eat - none of it comes from areas polluted by the oil spill. There are many sources for all types of seafood.

The most likely cause of the horrendous abdominal pains is a seafood allergy - a very common food allergy! Stop eating seafood of any sort until your family doctor has ordered allergy tests for you. If seafood is your passion, there sometimes are vaccinations to help relieve the symptoms (basically a very small dose of the allergen, taken repeatedly). You might even be able to eat small amounts eventually, but only very infrequently.

Seafood and fish are completely safe to eat since the oil spill, else we would have heard something more about it in the news.

Personally I make easy fish recipes often and I love seafood too. I never have adverse reactions to my fish or seafood and I would hate not being able to eat it any more!

Your abdominal pains are more likely to be caused by an allergy. Another cause might be that you are worried about becoming ill from the seafood and therefore making yourself ill by worrying about it.

Why don't you try some new fish recipes? You can't go wrong with tuna, salmon or cod, or you might like to try a budget choice like basa fish or tilapia. Frozen fish is often sourced internationally and since the oil spill hasn't reached that far out (or in fact to most of the locally caught fish) you should be absolutely fine.

Make sure your fish is cooked enough too. Undercooked fish can irritate sensitive stomachs. When the fish flakes easily it is done. Any further cooking is just going to dry it out. If the fish is still glossy (not opaque) in the center, it is not quite ready to eat.

If you really don't want to eat ocean seafood any more, what about trying some river-caught fish instead, such as trout? There are lots of flavorful trout recipes you can make. If you still get the stomach problems, you might just be sensitive to seafood.

only some parts of the ocean are now dangerous to fish in. addressing this comment

"Isn't saying that only certain parts of the same body of water is polluted as inaccurate as claiming that a smoking section of a restaurant actually contains smoke to that area?"

of course the oil spreads but the more it spreads the more it is diluted. if you are worried that you can't trust the fda to decide what is safe, just check and see where the fish was caught.

Id say some of it is, just be careful. I love in the New Orleans area, and I eat seafood ALL the time. I would probably that you can eat well cooked things like char-broiled oysters, but don't eat oysters raw. It's been clean since about March.
