The motherboard on my computer does not have any IDE all i have is 6 SATA ports so i currently dont have a dvd drive for it at all, nor the money to get one. So is it possible if move my hard drive to another computer and install windows 7 on the hard drive can i move it back to my computer and have it work? Is there anything i can do to make it work?

No, that won't work because your Windows 7 ties to the motherboard of the computer you install it on.

The only way around is to make an image file out of your windows 7 disc on your secondary pc then copy the disc image onto the USB.

This was written for the Windows 7 beta but it should work for the final version too ;)

That will only work if the other computer is identical to yours. SATA DVD burners are $20, borrow some money from a friend and pick one up from Best Buy.

This will work better: Targus PADVW010U Slimline Portable External USB 2.0 8x DVD Burner - USB Powered, Great for Netbooks - Refurbished

hi.. ya.. sure.. u can install windows 7 in ur HDD in another system and use in ur own system.. but mother boards should be of same architecture.. or for example if ur system processor is Intel and and installing system contains AMD, it may not support.. so better choose like mother boards and processors and after placing the HDD in ur system install the drivers.. and i dont think there should be a major problem with the drivers, because windows 7 supports and it has inbuilt drivers for nearly all types of mother boards and peripheral ICs.. ok then,, all the best..

Why don't you just borrow the DVD drive?

If the other computer's hardware is IDENTICAL to yours, yes.
