Do You Think Beyonce's Song "Run the World (Girls) Is Sexist?
I personally don't think it is, it just seems like one of those "female empowerment" things to me. But reading through most of the comments on YouTube a lot of people do think the song's sexist. And not all of those comments are from guys some girls say they think it's sexist.
I do agree though with some of the people who say that if a man were to make a song talking about how men run the world there'd be backlash against the song with more people publicly saying it's sexist.
Does anyone think the song's sexist or that there'd be more complaining about it if a man made a similar song?
@Pat Riarchy I already said that I don't think it's sexist, and if a man made a similar song I wouldn't either. At the end of the day it's just a song.

Well...no, since the literal definition of "sexism" is the putting down of the opposite gender. And her song isn't really putting men down, it's just raising women up. But it's kind of like asking if (back when slavery was around) slave riots against white slaveowners was a racist act. I guess, but only because they were the oppressed group and they were fighting back against the "dominant" group. Women today are seen as the weaker in a lot of situations, and though it is not as blatant as it was back in the day, there are still many many forms of chauvinism and sexism in today's society.
SO what Beyonce is doing, or at least trying to do, is empowering women to fight against that sexist cloak that hangs over a lot of women. Is it sexist? maybe, not really. But then that has to beg the question: is the general idea that "it's a man's world" sexist as well? perhaps, i dunno. But who said the world belongs to a particular gender anyway? Why does it have to be anyone's world?
Basically, in the words of a much more memorable song by War, "Why can't we be friends?"

Of course it is sexist, if by your own definition sexism is putting another gender down and making the other superior this song absolutley does that through the lyrical implications and subtext. Of course if a man wrote this song it would be considered sexist, but lets be real for a moment. Everyone seems to think women are "weaker" or at some sort of disadvantage. How is that?
The main issue of course is the gender wage gap. This website is pretty typical as far as pay wage gap propaganda goes. http://www.aauw.org/research/the-simple-truth-abou...
But you should notice that the study does nothing to examine the sort of jobs men and women take, and what the difference in pay is between men and women doing the same job, same qualifications, and same experience.
These resources prove that there is no gender wage gap, rather women get degrees and jobs that pay less then men typically. http://www.nber.org/papers/w11240.pdf?new_window=1

On the other hand, men die more often due to occupational hazard, suicide, they loose custody cases more often, and deal with prison rape which isnt addressed because femenists dont think men can be raped. Men have no real clear advantage in our society. We live in a very PC culture, and never do you hear the media try and propogate equality or advantages for men.
The fact of the matter is, if you think women are powerless, or at some disadvantage in our society, you are just sipping the kool-aid. You want equality for women? Lets see more women trying to work in coal mines, lets see women make alimony payments, lets put women and men in the same prisons. Also, when claiming that women are at a disadvantage in society, you are inadvertantly giving men back the power you already have. Playing the victim card is gonna make you weaker.

Songs talking about one gender being above the other do seem unfair, but at the end of the day it's just a song. I listen to songs that are way worse than that....rap songs that talk about shooting people and stuff. lol

It's just another sh!tty pop song is all. And if Beyonce is the spokeswomen for female empowerment then we're in serious trouble. Just take it for what it is, another overproduced piece of bedazzled crap.

It's about time female empowerment is noticed. All you hear is that men control the world and girls can't do this and that. What's the big deal. It's just a song. The only people who say it is sexist is men. Men have been controlling the world and society and one song about female empowerment is not a deal. Without women, it would be an empty world.

The easiest way to test if something is sexist is to reverse the gender. Would you think it sexist if a man sang Run the World (boys). If you do not find that sexist then the original is not sexist. If you do find it sexist then the original is sexist. So what do you think?

Beyonce is the wrong person to be talking about "female empowerment". I mean, she had that song "if you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it."
What is "it"?

It defenetly is.
And if you do not think it is, you at least know it stirs problems in today's gender issues in society.......so it doesnt help women, it just stirs more problems.
I find it stupid if a man sings the song as well...what is the purpose of such song anyways
