new sonar and somewhat confused so i need help.?

i recently got a Humminbird PiranhaMAX 160 and i would like to know if there is a way to find the direction of where the fish are in relation to the boat. i had a 15+ year old fishing buddy that i could just rotate the handle to figure it out but i am not too familiar with the newer tech. it has dual beams and the narrow one is easy because it shows below the boat but the wide beam shows fish but i can not figure out where they are and what direction to cast.

it's probably something simple but i am having issues and any help would be much appreciated. i am even open to the scorching "you're and idiot" comments as long as there is a little advise to go with it. most of my fishing is done with a fly-rod on streams so still-waters with sonar is is a little out of my comfort zone and learning to use a new tool would make it more productive i hope.

Update:

i have read the manuals and the support documents on their web-site. i'm just looking for an easy explanation from those who know from experience. getting knowledge from those who know in real life is far better than reading a book.

As for your model, No. The new Digital (RayMarine) models can do what you're asking, but not the old dual beam units. Some can tell you if the fish is moving towards the beam or away (Garmin). You must know that the 'ducer is pointed forward to tell direction of the fish. All finders have a downward beam which is either 22 degrees or 45 degrees of angle. The built in software determines the intensity of the returned signal to form the picture on the screen. I enjoy using my Color Digital Finder which operates on 455 kHz. The details are incredible and you can see which direction each target is pointing in relation to the cover structure.

Well...you can't really tell-turning the handle won't help as this isn't a side-scanning unit.I have an older Humminbird unit similar to this with dual beams and I've scratched my head over this myself-indeed as you say-the fish in the narrow beam appear solid color and in the wide beam appear only as an outline.A friend of mine has a Humminbird that uses a tri-beam on his bass boat that shows arrows (port/starboard side) over the fish (or points the fish on the starboard side "backwards")in the wide beam...but I don't believe there's any way to do this with the Pirahna 160 and similar units..
