Tax credits are given because the combined income of the household can count against your taxable income. It also promotes a better financial situation for a family structure. It's a way to help promote the national growth, which is very small in western nations. Marriage tax credits aren't the same in every state, but all generally have the same purpose.

The homosexual marriage debate is actually about tax credits, not about the right to get married. But nobody wants to admit this.

Doesn't really matter. Marriage tax credits don't help the average person. Financially speaking, marriage only benefits those in the upper middle classes and above. In the lower middle and poorer classes, it is actually a financial DISADVANTAGE to marry.

However, the government wants to encourage people to marry because married people tend to spend more money, driving forward the economy. So, if they give tax credits, more people are likely to think marriage is not the monetary disadvantage it has grown to be.

If we give folks financial incentive to get married it will obviously bring back the morals and values that come with marriage. I mean, that's totally how it works right?
