I expected it, because the 1994 Final produced riots as well. Some people in Vancouver are just stupid...

It was very unexpected, by all I think, the police department in downtown Vancouver for instance didn't seem to be expecting it. Nor should they have, it was senseless. And I agree with the other post that it is not just a Canadian thing at all.
I was really stopped in my tracks with the senselessness of thee destruction mostly, Quite disturbing. The ones involved not only shame the city but the country and are really stupid because they not only did something that was so wrong but also did it so openly that they will definitely face investigation with all the social media coverage of their actions around the world I might add (DUH!!!) that charges will likely follow, and should.
That doesn't say much for those few individuals does it, and they don't represent the general population but are the problem the rest of us are left to deal with sadly. How can some people be so ridiculous are they so stoned or drunk or what to go to that level, can it be just stupidity? I don't get it. Anyway it was on the radio talk show today here and the consensus amongst most callers was that the punishment should embarrass the offenders, they should be held financially accountable for their destruction and loss of revenue for business affected, and that most of them were the young set.
Edit: The photo you provide is so funny....thanks.

To be honest, how stupid some people could be over a loss of a game..I questioned whether they were really "fans" to begin with.
Hesistant to believe that the city of Vancouver and police did not "realize" how out of hand the situation could have been...you got an area of Vancouver which was not blocked off and controlled/contained, individuals with use of alcohol..then the loss of vancouver...how could they not anticipate this? or so "they say"...My coworker was commenting that in the UK, police handle these situations with anticipation and organization with the football games they got there.
I was appalled by the images portrayed in the news. I lived in 2 cities with better hockey teams (no offense)..sure people got rowdy during losses, even during stanley cup time but never as unruly and appalling as that...what was the whole stink over the canucks loosing anyways...vancouver does not deserve a hockey team after that...they deserve a frisbee team instead..
I think the canucks should have stepped up and been on the media to talk about this situation too and voice concern that violence and crime should not be condoned over a game...

Michelle,
I was watching the Conn Smythe trophy presentation after the game and couldn't believe all the booing. The crowd in Rogers Arena was angry and hostile. That same mood was reflected out on the streets. The city of Vancouver had set up large tvs on the streets around the arena for mobs to watch the game. What exactly did they think was going to happen when the Bruins won? It wasn't non-hockey people, it absolutely was the Canuck fans.

to be honest, i wanted the canucks to win do badly, i can see people being angry, sad, or what ever feeling we suppose to have but this was not at all necessary, its not like flipping cars and starting a fire in the middle of the street will change the result of the game or even a redo game. People in Canada are really really passionate about there hockey teams and wanting a cup back in canada. To be honest when i saw boston winning 3-0 i felt sick to the stomach was really upset and really pissed off but i didn't go start a riot did i. Canada should really smarten up and make stricter laws. This would of never happen back in the soviet days because they where scared sh!tless about getting there *** thrown into the gulags.

I used to think Vancouver was a classy city but SOME of it's citizens have proven that is not true. I don't think the whole city and certainly not the team should be blamed for this fiasco. IF the Canucks ever get into this situation again I sure hope the authorities have better control!

My 1st thoughts where. Here we go again. Idiots rioting over a stupid game. But despite what some people want to believe this isn't just a Canadian thing. This has happened with when the Lakers, Pistons & Bulls won Championships & has also happened with some Soccer games in Europe..

My thoughts are when are city's going to catch a clue and not block off city streets for people to stand in and drink for the entire event. Criminals make plans to attend these things along with decent people who just want to root for their team.
City officials and bar owners who overloaded their capacity should be held responsible. Someone somwhere needs to step up and put an end to these street parties.
Once again while some were fans most were probably not.
