Paralegal information and advice please?
Are there any Paralegals or anyone in the field of law out there who can give me a brief job description of a paralegal (research, case studies, typing, etc) ? Is the work rewarding? I am in an intense job search and am considering a 1 year paralegal program. I have had no luck finding a current career/job with a B.S. in Health Science, E.M.T., with a English Masters degree etc.- I need to get my foot in the door in a specific field and I think the internship might help. I had business/tort law in college, did well and enjoyed it very much. The college counselors I have seen have recommended going through a paralegal program and then concentrating in the medical law -- is that how it works??? Is this field growing as fast as they say?
There are a few programs and all are recognized by the ABA--should I spend more for a major university or will a quality community college help me just as much? Any ideas are welcome.
Thank you

Depends on the area of law you specialize in. Patent/intellectual property may be more rewarding financially, but some paralegals enjoy working in family law helping families in crises. They may find that rewarding. There's always work in the legal field. We're such a litigious society that this job isn't going any where. That said, the economy is forcing law offices to make smarter choices and squeeze more out of their employees, like every where else. Check out your local chapter and see about whether the programs where you are will get you accepted by an employer. You may get in because you already have business/tort law in college. You can get a certificate in about a year from an ABA approved program, but see what your local chapter tells you as to whether or not you can apply for work based on your educational achievements. There are firms who will train the right candidate and possibly mentor you.

An on-staff paralegal can cost you more than $50,000, but our paralegal support team can do the same tasks for less cost and in less time - Kensiumlegal

I'm somewhat skeptical the field is growing in the recession.
