Grammar Question, Help an old man!?

Ok this isn't meant to be religious at all but my grandpa asked me to find out for him, and it's a passage from the Bible.

"By grace are you saved through faith, and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God."

What is the rule concerning the pronouns "that" and "it"? Which noun are they referring to, "grace" or "faith".

Bonus Q: What is the second usage of a pronoun called?

If you know, I'd appreciate the help, my grandpa is trying to remember grade school and he's 92 years old.

Pronouns are supposed to refer back to the last noun before the pronoun. By that rule, both of them refer to faith.

Okay, I suck and nouns and pronouns but I can TRY to do a rough translation.

I think it means: Gods kindness allows you to be saved if you have faith in him, you can't do it alone. It is only a gift from God.

Hope this helped in SOME way, this is just my interpretation. Good luck ;)

The word "grace" is the subject of the sentence, so "that" and "it" refer to "grace." I'm not sure what you're asking in your bonus question.
