dual radeon 6850 versus single 6950?
which will deliver better fps for it's value, how many fps and which is better and runs cooler

Well look at it this way..2, 6850's will give you about the usefulness of a single 6990 or about 15-30% more than one 6850..however 2, 6850's would cost about $360 then you need to add at least $115 more for a PSU that will handle the two cards, that's now $475. not including the extra fans for cooling. the single 6950 is about $280 and if you have a PSU that can handle it you don't have that added expense. Is the near $200 extra cost equal to the 15-30% gain for you?

Single 6950 is cheaper, but the pair of 6850's in Crossfire performs better. Keep in mind that a few titles don't support Crossfire very well.
See the links on performance and performance/dollar below. It's an older article which doesn't include the 6950 but that doesn't really matter. Just look at results for the GTX 470/580 which are slightly better than the HD 6950.

Dual setup will be better. FPS is impossibble to say, unless you have seen similar setup. It will run in 40 idle and 60-70 in heavy load.

The Crossfire setup will work better. An alternative is to go with the 5970, which beats both.
