Tips on selling my vintage instrument?

I have a 1964 Gibson SG Special, that is all original, no repairs, only the tuners have been replaced with oem tuners. I still have the original tuners, no drill holes or major cosmetic issues just small scratches. I have been considering putting the guitar on ebay or some other source of online trade. Anyone have any tips on using Ebay or another service to get the maximum amount out of my instrument? I have quite a bit invested in this instrument and I know it is worth much more than I paid for it to the right person.

Thanks,

CC

No I wouldn't take it to a store unless it was a reputable vintage instrument shop. Probably the best way to find a serious buyer is to join the My Les Paul forum. It's free and only takes a minute. Some of the folks there are very serious collectors with hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of vintage Gibson's. You can sell it on that site once you join by placing an ad in the Member's Classifieds, but I'd just log on and introduce myself first. Then start a thread called "Value of 1964 SG" in either the main Les Paul forum or the vintage Les Paul section. I think if you got a little dialog started with some of the senior members there, who will certainly chime in on a guitar like this, it will help you sell it easier than if you just post it in the classified section without anyone knowing about it first. If you start a thread on this guitar and post some nice pictures folks will be asking to buy it. One of my friends has bought and sold some very nice Gibson's on this site and it is a very reputable site to sell a guitar of this value.

Don't sell it to a store, they won't give you much because they would resell it. So try auctions.
