So.... I just had my second lesson since march and my coach was working on the scratch spin with me. I can sorta do it... The entrance is easy and the windup and such... But after the three turn I can't seem to spin... I just go around once and then like stop.... Any tips for the scratch spin???? Thanks

Wait a second...a three turn? I only ever use the three turn at one point in my spin, and that's to turn into the crossovers for the windup.
First, try doing it without the crossovers. Start with your feet in a T position, with the foot you're trying to spin on (I do my forward spins on my left foot so that's how the instructions will be) in front. Make sure your left foot is holding an outside edge. Bend your knees, and push around into a sharp outside edge curve.
Rock onto the ball of your foot and as you swing your leg around to get into the starting position for a scratch spin, you should be starting to spin. Basically, this is the way my coach explained it to me, you're skating around yourself. The curve should turn into a spin almost automatically. Keep your skating knee bent slightly but not too much.
The way I learned it was to have my free leg bent at turned out with the ankle resting on the knee of the other leg and my arms in a circle in front. Then I pull my arms in and slide my free foot down my leg until it's crossed over at my spinning ankle. Trust me this is harder to pull off in Lycra pants.
Next lesson, ask your coach to break it down into tiny steps for you. It's easier that way.

Can you do a good open spin?
If not, you really need to work on your open spin since it's the set up for the scratch spin.
Once you have mastered your open spin, you should be able to get a scrach spin fairly easier.

You're probably rocking either onto your toepick or your heel, or you're on the wrong edge and you're essentially doing a snowplow stop while trying to spin. Try to stay on the ball of your foot, and practice practice practice!

umm...well i dont really know the names for spins in other countries. just mine..is it like a backspin? or sitspin? or camelspin? well for all spins you have to keep your center of balance on the ball or your foot/blade not your toe pick then that'll fail. also practice your spin positions off the ice for better balance.
