Does "Mom" or "My mom" sound better when writing?

I'm writing a novel and I wanted to keep things consistent. Should I use "Mom" or "My mom" when writing from my main character's point of view? Which one sounds better to you?

An example of "Mom" is:

Mom sighed and gave me a small smile. “We’ll try to adjust the best we can.”

I nodded my head in acknowledgement.

“I don’t want to be here either,” She continued, “But we have to try. The way I acted about this whole thing was…immature, to say the least. But now that we’re here, I see that it won’t be so bad. Promise me you’ll try to like it here?”

“How can I try to like something? I either do or I don’t.”

Mom rolled her eyes at me.

An example of "My mom" is:

My mom sighed and gave me a small smile. “We’ll try to adjust the best we can.”

"Mom" makes it warmer, and takes you more personally into the main character. However, "My mom" seems to flow better. Myself, I would go with "My mom". But it's really about what's more appropriate for the type of writing. Also, you probably already know, if you choose to use "Mom", remember that it must be capitalized each time regardless of it's placement within the sentence because it is acting as her name when used by the main character. Happy writing!

extra advantageous than Homer's neighbor asserting whats up-diddley-do. yet relatively, if somebody suggested that to me, so help me, i might ask them to megastar in my next snuff action picture. Frog splat smells much less.

Saying mom is a little more personnel than just saying MY mom so i think mom sounds better.

In the context you give above, "Mom" works a little better. Keeps the story flowing. "Mom" makes her a character. "My mom" is just a figure.

You can use either since it's in first person; I like just using "Mom" alittle bit better.

I think it sounds better if you use MOM instead of MY MOM. :)
