Is Cairo Egypt safe for Americans now?

Yes it's safe ..

It's really worthy coming to Cairo.. Safety is not an issue now..the unrest is over and some political demonstrations in only one place is not a big evil! The country is all yours.. you are free and safe to move from Cairo to Alexandria to Luxor and from Aswan to Red Sea resorts of Sharm Elsheikh to Hurghada and again up to the Mediterranean North coast... Enjoy it!

I am due to travel out to Egypt next week, the UK consulate is still warning about travel to CCairoand asking that we UK citizens stay away. I believe Luxor is fine and the other main areas of Egypt, just stay clear of Cairo for now to be on the safe side. Happy travelling!
