Why has Harry Potter had such an impact on people?

Literature is characterized by its capacity to touch people, there are so many books that I've read that have given me chills. But what does Harry Potter have that makes it so powerful in people's lives? My main question is: Why Harry Potter and not others?

I think it's because Harry Potter appeals to every age. Kids love it for it's magic and story line, even if they don't understand the deeper meaning. Teenagers love it because a lot of the friendship/love issues are things they can relate to, as well as school problems. Adults love it because of the relationships and the story line and the meaning behind it all.

I grew up the same age as Harry, so I started reading it when I was 11. I didn't really understand what it all meant at the time, but I loved how different and unique it was. It was original. When the series first sky-rocketed, it was before twilight and all the vampire/werewolf/witch shows. And it is so well-written. It does not matter how many times you read it, you'll always discover something new. The second time I read through the series, I noticed so many things that I didn't notice the first time just because I knew the ending. For example, they gloss over minor details in the first book and you're thinking that it's not important and then in the seventh book you find out it is really really important. She planned them so well that they are just so intriguing.

So I think it's a combination of it being relatable to all ages, unique, and intriguing. I love the series myself, it's kind of sad to think that after all these years, it's ending in a month.

I think the series is so great because it was planned out really well so that it's all very continuous...since she sort of knew the end already it's very cohesive which makes it great to read when everything fits so well together. And she wrote it in such a way that the audience was allowed to 'grow up' with the characters. I was 12 when I read the first book and 20 when I read the final one so it was nice for the story to mature with me, but still be this magical world that was 'like being a kid' again. I don't really know of many other series that are like that, and the fact that the subject matter, and main themes are really themes that are germain to anyone... no matter what age not just kids. Death, and loyalty, making the right choices with the information that you have, doing what's right even though it's not easy, love....all important no matter how old you are. Good stuff.

I think harry potter draws a picture of a world that we can only imagine about. Something we can categorize santa, tooth fairy, easter bunny, hulk, spider man, and so many more with. It gives people an escape to a magical world. I know when I was younger I was facinated with witches and wizards and magic so it brings me back. But not to say those are the only books I read, I love jodie picoult, and emily dickinson, I guess I just range from different genres.

@No Pun Intended: Um....no. Twilight isn't anywhere near the numbers of fans that Harry Potter is. Maybe in the United States, yes, but Harry Potter is an international phenomenon that's reached millions of children all over the world.

I think Harry Potter is really unique. It's one of the few fandoms that have taken off so far and lasted so long.

For me, it was because of the plot and characters. The story was so well thought out and written that I almost believed that it could happen in real life. J.K. Rowling took her inspiration from real-life issues and situations, and wrote the characters in a way that made them seem like they really could exist. Harry wasn't perfect, or all powerful, he wasn't as smart as Hermione, and his best skill was in Quiddich. It was his morals that made him strong.

I think a lot of people can feel a connection to that, and to the books themselves, because it has a bit of something in it for everyone. People who suffered from depression can understand dementors, because that's what Rowling created them from. People who feel like outcasts can understand Harry or Remus Lupin, even Snape! People who felt like they weren't strong enough could read about people who could make a difference just through will power.

Harry Potter became even more popular with the movies, and a lot od people like the idea of magic and Wizardry. And it's a series that are for all ages, for anyone who wants to enjoy them.

HARRY POTTER WINS!!!!! i'm a geek too. specific, Twilight is sturdy, yet there is not any intensity in it and that's kinda sappy and stressful, yet that would not end me from getting enthusiastic approximately it. yet I nonetheless think of Harry Potter is the appropriate. as nicely, now that Breaking first gentle is out, when you consider that there are maximum of people disillusioned in it, that's on no account going ot be as prevalent as Harry Potter. that's each and all the trend now via fact Harry Potter is over (sob!), yet that isn't final long.

i guess cuz Harry had nothing and was treated badly but then he becomes so powerful and stuff. I guess it shows people that small doesnt mean nothing. Plus its a good story. Ive read books that i know wuld b great as a movie but it isnt and may never b but its just how it works i guess. Two equally great books side by side but a director has to pick one and can only make so many movies and much of which isnt books but a screen play someone wrote that will never b a hard cover book but only a movie....

For me, it's because it's so amazing to read. They are the only series of books that I can read a gazillion times and never bore of them. They were my friends when no one else was. They made me laugh and cheered me up when nothing else could. Many people have an emotional attachment to the books. I know I do.

its about a boy whose family is tragicly killed and the killer is trying to kill him next. that in itself is great drama.

ADD the friendship that you watch from movie one to the end between harry, hermione and ron and thats someone that people strive for. TRUE friendship that is put to tests and survives.

Magic which everyone (almost everyone) likes and dreams about.

The School Bully Draco and his "gang" and all the evil adults who you LOVE to hate because you KNOW they are evil and probably reminds you of someone teachers YOU'VE had.

Friends dying and teachers coming and going. Family that comes and goes also (SIruis)

Thats a LOT of drama that some people can relate to and love seeing a boy become a man and WIN

because JK Rowling creats a whole universe so successfully that its easy to just get lost in it. I find myself dreaming to be in that world all the time. its just a place we all wish we could be a part of. her characters are so well developed and there really arent any flaws. just magical
