  • Looking for Podcasts to listen to while working from home - more details included...?

I am going to list some podcast series that I've listened to and really liked as well as some I listened to and liked less to see if I can find something I haven't listened to but would like. I am generally into true crime/mystery podcasts --- but I have enough sort of...one-off ones (that go over a different case/crime every episode - or series of episodes. For example I really like True Crime Garage, My Favorite Murder, Murder Squad, and Last Podcast on the Left.

I am looking for more series long pods that focus on one story. My absolute favorite of those so far that I've listened to was Cold (about the disappearance - and likely murder - of Susan Powell).

I've also listened to a really liked:

    Missing Alissa

    Serial

    S-Town

    The Man in the Window

I also listened to Caliphate and really enjoyed it. So I'm open to some political/social stuff (if there is a podcast about the Arab Spring, I'd be into that).

Overall, I am looking for something with multiple episodes that is well-researched (I'm not into much conjecture made by the presenters -- like I really didn't like Missing Maura Murray).

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated - thanks!

  • Help with Documents on laptop showing up sometimes but not others?

I have been working since August. I was supposed to get a laptop for work but they were not in yet so they gave me a desktop that I've been using in my office. Sometimes I have to go to other locations to do my work and the good thing is that they are all on the same computer network so I can just sign into the desktop and my documents are there (if it's a computer in my district).

Now, I received my laptop yesterday and anticipated having to transfer my documents to it from the desktop I've been using...but when I looked, all of my documents are on my laptop --- when I'm at work. When I signed onto the wireless network at my house, there were NO documents on my laptop.

How can I get the documents to be on my actual laptop so that if I ever need to work on them at home, I will have access to them?

Obviously, I'm not super computer savvy - thanks for the help.

  • How long should it take an iPad to charge?

I was just issued an iPad for work. It was completely dead when I got it so I plugged it in at about 7:30pm. It's currently only 9% charged. It came with a 12 watt charging adapter... It is not a new iPad though, it's been used by past employees. I know it should take hours to fully charge from 0%, but shouldn't it be more than 9% having been plugged in and the screen in the off/sleep mode for 2.5 hrs??

  • Question about Microsoft Word?

It's Word 2010. I'm having an issue that has been cropping up sometimes. I'll save a document and when the save box comes up I choose 'documents' as the place to save it. However, when I try to look at the list of my documents later, the file is not there. I end up using the search bar by my start menu to look for the document and it's listed under (files) instead of (documents).

What is causing this? I've even tried to open it and re-save it making sure to select 'documents' but it still doesn't show up.

It's given me multiple mini-heart attacks as I'm in grad school and often expect a large paper to be there only to find it missing and for a split second think that I didn't save it or something. It also makes it difficult to attach files to emails and such...so what's going on?

  • behavioral intervention?

Say a student is having issues with off-task, out-of-seat behaviors. The real issue seems to be an 'attitude' when it comes to speaking with other students. If another student makes a comment or says something that is wrong (like a wrong answer to a question or a comment that isn't pertinent to the topic being discussed in class)....he will tell them (in a not so nice way) that they are wrong or that their answer/comment is dumb. When he's redirected, he seems to then just shut down and not participate in class.

What are some interventions that can be used to help?

  • Help with wireless issue (read details)?

Ok, I have a Dell laptop with Windows 7.

I am in graduate school right now and I live in a university apartment where we get the University's wireless network.

Up until last summer, my internet worked fine no matter what network I was on. But then all of a sudden, It will allow me to connect to any network and shows that I have internet connectivity but then when I try to get open my browser it says "Server Not Found". When I run Windows diagnostics (which I know is not the best way to figure out what's going on) it basically tells me that there is something wrong with my DNS server. I have flushed DNS and renewed it but I still have not been able to get onto any other wireless networks.

It's confusing me because I still can get onto the university's wireless network with no problems. Is there a way that the university's network has made me have a static DNS or something? I don't know what's going on.

Let me know if you need any other information

  • Help with my shamrock plant?

Ok, so a couple years ago my grandma gave me a shamrock plant. One with white flowers on it:

    http://trendspic.com/the-shamrock-plant-garden-blo...

One that looks like the one in that picture.

It was doing well for the first two years I had it. Great actually. I was worried because my apartment doesn't get any direct sunlight (all of my windows face North). So the leaves and flowers were always leaning to one side (to get sun) but it was blooming a lot and I tended to rotate it around.

However, this Winter it was super cold. We had our curtains closed and folded up under themselves to try to keep the cold air out since our apartment doesn't have good insulation. My shamrock plant was on the windowsill though. We had temperatures outside that were down to -30 degrees F and I totally spaced and didn't even think to take my plant out of the windowsill and into the apartment. So it was up against that cold window all the time.

I remembered about it one day and the leaves above the soil were frozen and began to fall right when I brought it into the apartment off the sill, I touched the soil and it seemed frozen. It's not a large pot so I'm almost sure it was frozen solid. However I have checked the 'bulbs' or rhizomes or whatever they're called and they are not mushy..they are still firm.

If I start watering it again this Spring, will it come back or should I just get a new one? It's the first house plant I've ever had.

  • Sound only in one earbud? Read details?

Ok, I'm trying to watch a movie on Netflix right now and the sound is only coming through on my left ear bud.

The ear buds I'm using are fine. The sound is fine on Youtube and is fine for a few other Netflix movies I've chosen to test. It's just this one movie that I'm watching where the sound is only coming in one side.

What could cause this? It doesn't seem like a Netflix issue since it's not all movies and it's not my computer's issue, or my headphones. What gives?

The movie is Maniac, if that's important. --Also, the sound from my computer is fine (ie. when I move my volume bar up and down...I hear that ding in both sides of my headphones while I'm only hearing sound from the movie in my left)

    Thanks for any help.

  • Help with the name of an actor?

In the movie The Net, there is a character that Sandra Bullock is talking to on the phone when she finds that little link at the bottom of the website page and he says he doesn't want to talk to her about it on the phone. He tells her he's going to fly his cessna and meet her....but his plane crashes. What is the name of that actor.....I know I've seen him in something else.

    Thnx for the help!

  • Behavioral intervention, kindergartener...Please read?

I am in graduate school for school psychology and am doing my school-based practicum right now.

I am beginning a consultation case with a kindergarten teacher who has a student that she's having behavioral issues with. He's 'melting down'/having 'fits'. His behavior consists of crying (to the point of being inconsolable), and hitting her at times and other students.

I am trying to help her feel less discourage and like she has no options. I also would like to avoid the school referring him since he's only in K.

He appears to have a 'lazy' eyelid which I need to double check on because when I asked the teacher if he had any vision problems because of it she said no. He also appears like he may have some fine motor issues (behind the others in his class). The students have morning seat work to do in the mornings which consists of coloring a picture and then on the back of the paper, copying sightwords (~18 of them). He apparently has issues daily completing this work on time. When he colors he does not use large strokes for large areas so he doesn't finish with the picture until much later than the other children. The teacher gives them probably 20 min or so to do this work , then she announces she is starting a timer for 20 minutes (giving them warnings about 3 times that time is almost up/how much time they have left).

I've observed him 3 times and he is inattentive to his work (he will color for ~2min and then stare off. At one point when he began writing his sightwords he began to write 'yes', but he drew the 'y' too far to the right and was not going to have room to complete the word without running into the line to the right of it. He immediately began crying and whining about how he did it wrong and that it was now ruined (the teacher says this is a constant issue, he will crumble up his paper or tear it and ask for a new one, which she refuses). He also has an issue with not being able to finish work. I observed him during an assignment where they were doing a word search and then they were asked to spell 'alphabet' (not a K word, but it was a 'challenge' just for fun) He was able to write 'a' in the time given and then the teacher asked the class to put their things away and he again began to cry because he hadn't finished. He also seems to get agitated physically (seems out of breath and stutters). The teacher came over, calmed him and allowed him to sound out the word and finish. Once he was supposed to put a book away and another child grabbed it and put it away so he hit him.

I will be suggesting to the teacher:

Giving him larger lines to write the sightwords on so that if he messes up, he will have room to start over (they are not allowed erasers for some reason in this class...the reason eludes me)

Sitting him next to the teacher when she is waiting for other students to turn in assignment so she can give him redirection often so he can finish faster

Using a crayon to 'section off' his drawing into numbered sections so he has a strategy for coloring in large areas quicker

Using a visual cue for time left for an assignment to remind him he needs to keep working

Sitting him away from other students who are finished and moving on to other tasks which can be distracting.

So, if you're still with me....I hope I've explained well what's going on and what I've suggested. if you have any more suggestions that I haven't thought of that'd be great! I really don't want this kiddo to have to be evaluated when he's just starting school and just needs a little help!

  • Help with intervention for kindergartener?

I have a kindergartener who is having issues related with finishing his work and writing neatly.

I think he may have some fine motor skill issues. But the real issue is that he has a fit if he's not done with his work or if something is not 'neat' in his opinion. He's like a perfectionist.

The other day I was observing him doing an assignment where he was supposed to be copying sight words. He was supposed to write the word 'yes' and he began to write his 'y' too far to the right of the line provided for him. He realized immediately that there would not be enough room to write the entire word. He began to get upset and cry. I quickly told him to just scratch out the 'y' and start farther over to the left and re-write the word. He dealt with this OK...but his teacher said that normally that type of situation would lead to a fit with him.

He also has issues when they do their morning work. They are given lots of time and he is given warnings throughout that there is a time limit....however he often is distracted from his work and when the timer goes off and he's not finished and is asked to put it away, he gets upset because he's 'not finished'.

Any ideas of what I can suggest to the teacher to help her out?

  • Check engine light/(!) mark, Toyota Corolla?

Ok, I have a 2008 Toyota Corolla. It's got about 114,000 miles on it. My check engine light came on about a week ago...but only was on for like 2 days. By the time I got to Autozone for them to check it for me it was off. It was off for about 3 days and then came on again. Again it was on for like 2 days. So this morning I get to my car to go to work (~7:45am so it was maybe 40 degrees or so) and the check engine light is on (like it has been the past two days) and the (!) mark is lit up too. I think the (!) is something about my tire pressure?? But, today after work when I was planning on heading to Autozone, the check engine light is no longer on.

So, what gives? I checked my gas cap for cracks/to make sure it was on correctly and there's no issue there....so why is my check engine light going on/off? Can they read it even if it's off? And am I right about the tire pressure....because I just got my oil changed within the last month and they checked the pressure/filled them and that light has never came on in the 3 yrs I've had the car and I know for a fact that my tire pressure has been low before.

    Help, LOL.

  • Two quick questions about Doctor Who?

I just recently started watching the series on Netflix on the suggestion of a few friends. I began with the newest series (2005). I'm only about 1/2 way through season 3 right now. So no spoilers! =D

Now, if this is going to be explained at some later time then just let me know that and I'll wait and learn it when it's explained like everyone else. But, since I've never seen any of the older series I don't really have any idea how it works.

    1. How quickly does time really go by in the show? As in, how long, for example, was Rose with the Doctor (I know she was 19 when she set off with him but don't think she mentions an age or birthday ever again)? Is a season of Doctor Who roughly a normal year or something, or much longer?

    2. Also, since I don't live under a rock....even though I'm not that far yet I am aware that Matt Smith is no longer the Doctor and the new one is going to be Peter Capaldi. Since I've not watched the old ones and just recently got into the show I'm not familiar with the general opinion of the Doctors. So could someone rattle off real quick for me (roughly) who are the fans 'favorite'/'least favorite' doctors? I get the idea that David Tennant is a favorite of people.....but for example, haven't gotten that feeling about Chris Eccleston. Although I think at this point I really liked him.

    Just curious!! Thx!

  • MOBI/EPUB eBook files?

I am in need of some instruction on what I need to read ebooks if I have both the MOBI and EPUB files available. Do I need to download some kind of program to read them? I'd like to just read them on my computer as I do not have an e-reader. I do have an iPhone but I think the font will be too small if I try to read on my phone? Whatever is easiest. TY!

  • Help with wireless intenet connection? Windows/Dell laptop?

OK. I have had this laptop for about a year. I am at graduate school and when at school and at my apartment at school I am using the universities wireless internet. I have had no problems with connectivity to that network.

I am home right now and am unable to browse. I was just home 3 weeks ago and the internet was fine.

The homepage doesn't load and then says 'server not found', when I open the network and sharing center and run diagnostics it states that 'there may be a problem with the DNS server'. When I click on get more info it says, 'the DNS server may not be available'.

I have checked in Services and my DNS server is started, I stopped and started it again. I've done IP config/release and renew and flushed DNS.

I was just recently house-sitting for a friend of mine and this happened with her wireless internet too. I couldn't get on with the same error. When I look at the wireless connection in the bottom right corner it says I'm connected with good strength and the network map shows I'm connected but if I click on the network map to look at it closer there is a dotted line between my computer and the router and a solid line between the router and the internet. I can ping my router in both situations (my house and the house I was watching) but I can't ping a website.

Any ideas? I have no idea what could have happened because it has worked every time I've gone back and forth from school to home until now.
