Help with Documents on laptop showing up sometimes but not others?

I have been working since August. I was supposed to get a laptop for work but they were not in yet so they gave me a desktop that I've been using in my office. Sometimes I have to go to other locations to do my work and the good thing is that they are all on the same computer network so I can just sign into the desktop and my documents are there (if it's a computer in my district).

Now, I received my laptop yesterday and anticipated having to transfer my documents to it from the desktop I've been using...but when I looked, all of my documents are on my laptop --- when I'm at work. When I signed onto the wireless network at my house, there were NO documents on my laptop.

How can I get the documents to be on my actual laptop so that if I ever need to work on them at home, I will have access to them?

Obviously, I'm not super computer savvy - thanks for the help.

Your documents are stored in your user directory in your roaming profile at work. When you are at home, you don't have access to the work network.

You can a) save the documents onto the local hard drive (in which case changes will NOT be made to the ones stored on the network. You would have to manually copy those documents back to the network at work after making any changes. b) Alternatively, you can save the files to a flash drive which will require the same manual update if any changes are made. c) Have your IT staff set you up with a VPN connection so that when you are connected to the net from other locations you have a secure connection to your company's network.

You answered your question with the quote below:

Your Home Network is NOT on your Employer's Network/District.

You documents are on NEITHER your Laptop NOR on the Desktops you used but ARE on your Employer'sDistrict Network.

This is why you could only access your documents from certain desktops and cannot access your documents through your Home Network with your Laptop

Ask your IT department how to connect to your Employer's/district network. You may have to get special permission from your department head for remote access to your files.
