Black & Decker drill charger not charging battery...?

We have a 12V portable drill with attachable plug-in charger. We use it maybe twice a year, but it is 10 years old. We plugged it in today in multiple outlets and it's not charging--no light on charger nor charging battery. Any ideas before we go and buy a new battery? Thanks.

The charger may have burned out an internal fuse, also the batteries may be dying after 10 years. For the price of a new drill and charger you will have a unit for another 10 years and it is easier and probably cheaper than trying to repair the old unit.

You must test the charger first setting a voltmeter on DC voltage. Measure the voltage at the end of the cord for out put. If you do not see a reading for DC, the charger is bad. If you see a reading for DC, then buy a new battery, battery is bad. Good luck...!

I am convinced that this is how companies make their money. I have had the same problem with companies phasing out models, so what I do is buy a cheap battery operated drill with more than one battery.
