Will FAA class 3 medical also suffice for gliders?

I plan to fly solo this summer in a glider and also intend to take powered flight lessons some time after. Will getting the FAA class 3 also suffice for the student pilot certificate needed for gliders?

Yes, you can get any class, but you must get the Student Pilot Certificate (it's tan as opposed to white and has space on the back for the CFI to endorse).

Yes, third class is all you need. When you go to the FAA Medical Examiner's office, be sure to tell them you want the Student Pilot form.

Yes, 3rd class is the medical you want. Now if you plan to fly for compensation, you will need at least a 2nd class medical.
