What are the chances of coming out of a diabetic coma?
Okay, so after a year since my mother passed away, my dad finally started meeting people. He met a really nice lady who has diabetes, and is now in a diabetic coma. I feel bad because he's kind of going through everything all over again, and he really likes her. So, what are the chances of coming out of a diabetic coma? She's in her 30s, and really fit. I'm not sure how long she's been in it, I just found out about it now.

I'm sorry you had to put up with that diatribe from your first respondent.
It really does depend on how long, and how far, your dad's friend has been in DKA (Diabetic Ketoacidosis).
The good news is, I've been in a diabetic coma on a few occasions, and I'm still here to tell the tale. (My wife has been told to 'prepare herself for the worst' twice, but you can keep a good man down.)
I pray that your dad's friend make a full and speedy recovery.
Edit:
To the clown ... or should that be coward ... that sent me an email and 'requested' that I not reply, don't you think you're the ignoramus that should do a bit of education before opening your stupid mouth?

diabetic coma occurs in patients with uncontrolled diabeties mellitus. the excess glucose in blood acts like toxin. often patients end up like this because of sheer negligence to take medicatons. the recovery from this state gretly depends on one thing and one thing alone i.e time duration before he was shifted to hospital and started in treatment. the longer the duration the worser the prognosis. if he was shifted within an hour, the chances of recovery are excellent. he must be severly dehydrated (almost 6litres of water are lost in each episode), but he will definitely recover....but another type of coma seen in diabetics is called hypoglycemic coma....this is extremely dangerous...occurs due to over use of medicines...and the damage here is too much and people if not treated early will die.
