Corey Perry wins the Hart? Anybody surprised?
I am. That last month must have caught the attention of the PHWA!
CBC really needs to show the awards live so that other media outlets and NHL.com don't give away the award winners before they are televised.
Bad move NHL....bad move!
33 minutes after asking this question...............CBC still hasn't gotten to the Hart Trophy!

I was rather surprised that Corey Perry won the Hart, mainly because of Daniel Sedin's numbers, but then again...Perry did what he did with less support. The PHWA noticed very well!

The award is for most valuable to his team. Look at the alternatives. Take Daniel off the Canucks and the team still wins the division. Take St. Louis off the Lightning and Tampa is still in the playoffs maybe just. But take Perry off the Ducks and Anaheim has a lottery pick.
I am on satellite TV. had the option of watching the show "live" at 7:00 pm Newfoundland time, Eastern Daylight, Central, Mountain, Pacific, or even Yukon time. Each version was reported as being live. At least TSN didn't report it until it was shown on CBC Toronto.

I wasn't surprised. Perry was the only 50 goal scorer (with 11 game winners) this season. While he played with great players in Getzlaf and Ryan, they're not as big of stars as Henrik Sedin and Steven Stamkos, who Daniel and St. Louis play with. Daniel Sedin also had a 40 goal scorer on his team in Ryan Kesler. I figured they'd give the award to Daniel, but I was going for Corey all the way.

I was absolutely floored and so was he. I thought it was pretty darned awesome, though.
Over all it was an okay show. I was shocked Lidstrom won the Norris (thought it would be Chara) and Lidstrom looked shocked as well.
And what the heck were they thinking having those bimbo, plastic housewife "people" give out an award at the NHL awards? St. Louis handled it really well. He's a class act.

He won the Rocket Richard trophy and had 98 points and 114 PIM and got the Ducks from 13th place into the playoffs (with home ice in the first round) in the last half of the season and did so with Hiller injured for most of the run. That's an impressive body of work.
Vancouver was pretty much in first place from October onward; they had a Vezina Finalist, a Selke winner, and a Hart/Lindsay finalist in their lineup.
Honestly, the awards show last night (what little I caught of it) was very much not my cup of tea. I can't believe I was longing for Ron MacLean to do his roasting/quip monologue. I had to give up on it. The host (who shall go nameless) mispronounced several names and generally appeared unprepared.

Not really. It was a toss up between him and Daniel IMO. I was hoping Daniel would win but Perry led in goals and had less surrounding talent, so I guess he deserved. Any of the 3 finalists deserved it IMO.

I wasn't really surprised. He led the league in goals.I knew it would be Daniel Sedin or Corey Perry. Perry can score goals, pass the puck, and even gets in the penalty box quite a bit.

Not at all surprised. He def deserved it, even though Daniel was a close second. Perry had a great year and has many more to come

CBC: 4 minutes for delay of LITY's life.
NHL.com: 5 minutes for result leaking and a game misconduct.
