20 mo old son, bleeding belly button, fever?

I took my 20 mo old son to the ped for a health checkup Saturday, strange I know because most offices are closed on Saturdays but ours isn't. Sure enough, Monday he came down with a fever, he ALWAYS catches some kind of sickness when he goes in for his checkups......sigh. Anyway, it's now Wednesday night and I went to change his diaper and saw that his belly button was scabby. I cleaned it and it just looks raw. My hubby thinks it's just because he picks at his belly button so much. I'm going to call his ped in the morning about it, but I just want to know what you all think. Oh, he still has fever. I give him iboprophren for it, if that matters.

I would put a little neosporin on the belly button and keep it covered for a while so he can't scratch at it. Put him in a onesie or overalls or something, or put a bandage over it with tape on all four sides (not a band-aid - those are too easy to pull off and will just be more of a temptation). If it heals on its own after a few days, then your hubby is probably right. If it doesn't improve after a few days of not being picked at, then talk to the doctor.

As far as the fever - as long as the ibuprofen is working to bring it down, I would just wait it out. If he's got a virus, there isn't much the doc can do anyway. If the fever stays high even when he's on the ibuprofen, then do call the doc.
