Proper etiquette if cashier run up wrong?

I waiting in a long line, as we were leaving the cashier we noticed they ran up the item wrong (wrong price etc). The guy behind us was already being rang up, so we waited until she completed his checkout.

Then I said excuse me and told the cashier of the problem and said sorry to the person next in line being the guy being rung up. He starting yelling telling me we need to wait again in the 45 min line again and it his turn and he should be done already.

I told him we waited already and only noticed the discrepancy after we finished the transaction we did not walk more than 3' away from the register. He said too bad back to end of the line, and was very rude, he threatened that he would wait for us in the parking lot and resolve this. The guy behind him told him to calm down, and the cashier said do I need to call security to both of us.

What is the proper etiquette if cashier run up wrong, must we wait again, or should the customer next in line be polite and allow you to clear up the incorrect items?

If I was in the impatient customer's position... of course I wouldn't be too happy to have to wait again, but I would of. What is another 1-5 minutes after waiting for so long lol. If he was in a hurry, he shouldn't of came to the store at such a busy time of the day.

Usually if there is a customer service desk or a return desk, you take your receipt to them; you don't stop the cashier. It's their job to keep the lines moving and people happy, not take care of double charges, unless they aren't busy. Surely every store has a customer service/return desk and you really should of gone to them before going back to the cashier.

I've had this happen a lot and I wouldn't bother with the cashier, because either it would hold up the line or the cashier would be nasty to me because I pointed out a mistake lol. It's just easier to deal with people who are suppose to take care of those things.

Do I think you should of had to wait again? No. You did your waiting and the cashier made a mistake, that wasn't your fault. The guy had a right to be mad because it was his turn, but he shouldn't of been angry with you... he should of been angry with the cashier but also acknowledging that mistakes are made and it's not going to take forever, maybe a couple of minutes to correct. Next time this happens though, if it's busy; just go to the service desk :)

Hope I helped and I'm sorry he had to act like a nut like that... yikes.

The man behind you was very wrong. Refuse to argue and just ignore him. The cashier was also very wrong. You should call the manager and state your case calmly and simply, and both the man behind you and the cashier need to be reprimanded. The cashier was very wrong and ought to have dealt with the problem.

The cashier should have been wrote up by management for his rude behavior ! He should have corrected your receipt then or called a manager to take care of you. The way he handled the whole scenario was unprofessional. Then again, after re-reading your question, the cashier stated he would wait for you in parking lot ? Since he threatened you, that was enough for him to be terminated !

They should just let you go though. The guy in line sounds like he was just being mean. I would let someone go before me, whats another 1 minute in a 45 minute line? Nothing, really.

The man behind you in line was extremely rude. He could have waited another minute.

Go the Customer Service desk and show them the error; they can correct it on the spot.
