How to get the smell of Blood/Vomit out of the carpet?
Hi Im hoping you can help me. Im trying to clean a carpet that has a very large amount of Blood/Vomit on it. Ive got the stain out and it looks back to normal now but the smell is appalling! Ive tried Bicarbonate of soda,Dettol,Zafflora,Wash powder,Ariel stain remover and carpet shampoo. Has anyone any other ideas? It smells like rotting meat. Thanks in advance.

The smell is coming from underneath the carpet. Washing etc may clean the surface, but probably the floor or underlay is damp and rotten. remove it.

If you have used all that and it still hasn't removed the smell. Try liquid alive its a live bacteria that munches odor forms. Used in dumpsters, hospitals, kennels, grease traps, etc. Found at a commercial janitorial supply. If u follow directions and that doesn't work call a professional. If your floor is rotted replace flooring. I was introduced to it by a professional when i worked in a forty 40 yr old bowling center. Everytime the men would open door to restroom it wreaked of piss that u could smell at front desk. There were no baseboards at urinals. I couldn't stand it. I followed directions and in less than a week the smell was gone. I used it every night afterwards cuz some men pissed everywhere. I still use it to this day. I love it and will not live without it.

Lets start with a few tips I know work, being in the home improvement maintenance field for 15 years.
First thing we need to do is Saturate the area with baking soda water. Yes make a liquid that is muddy looking and poor it over the stain..
Then we need to use a soap, I love using Tide as it is a warm cold water cleaner.
We use a scrub brush to SOFTLY scrub the carpets.
Now we need a way of extracting and washing the carpets. There are many ways of doing this and I recommend rug doctor.
Once you are done, wait for carpets to dry and if the stain is still around redo steps.

I would call a professional carpet cleaner asap. Not only is the smell horrible for you but that is not good to leave it any longer for health purposes.I have my carpets cleaned at least every 3 months. There is just too much dirt and bacteria living in dirty carpets.

I was going to suggest Nature's Miracle. It is one of the enzyme odor/stain removers. We use it for occasional pet accidents. It is marketed for Pet stains/odors but on the front it specifically says "removes all organic stains and odors, including food, blood, vomit, ...."

Try a spray bottle filled with vinegar, just spray it on the stain. This should neutralize the odor. I hope this helps!
