Christians! How many of you would respond to a 'bible quote'?
....which I borrowed from The Hitch-hikers Guide to the Galaxy?

The first thing that I would do is respond that it is not in the Bible. And, if I did not recognize the quote, and I haven't memorized the Bible, I would check the quote against the translations found on Bible Gateway.
The second thing I would note is there is a fallacy in the quote: "God said 'For I cannot prove I exist for proof denies faith and without faith I am nothing.'"
While the first part of the statement is true -- faith can not exist in the face of absolute proof -- the second part is false.
Even the first part, which is true, you have to understand what is meant by "proof". To give you an example: I have faith that Barack Obama is a real person. I know Bill Clinton is a real person. I have never met Obama. However, the news media and various other sources which I trust tell me that he is a real person. Therefore I have faith that he is a real person. But, as a former newspaper reporter, I once stood about six feet away from Clinton. I know that he is a real person. I have personally, with my own eyes, seen him and with my own ears, heard him speak.
In the same that there is proof that Obama exists, there is proof that God exists. The complexity and design of the universe, the complexity and design of life, even life itself are all proofs that God exists. The life and teachings of Jesus, the empty tomb, are all proofs that God exists. I have investigated those proofs and I have found them to be true. So, when I say there is no absolute proof for God, I do not mean that there is no proof for God. While God can not be proven in the test tube, He can be proven in the courtroom. The courtroom (beyond a reasonable doubt) has a different standard of proof than the test tube (absolute). Courtroom proof requires faith. Test tube proof does not.
As for the second part of the theory, God's existence and power is not dependent on our faith. God exists whether or not we believe He does or not. And God has power whether or not we believe He exists. Why do you think that a God who can speak the universe into existence would worry about whether some finite, ignorant, weak creature as man, who barely exists for a few decades, does not believe in Him?
