How to make an image of Mac os downloaded file ext .dmg to external HD?

I am currently running on Mac Leopard and i want to upgrade to Snow Leopard. i downloaded the os 10.6.8 (snow leopard) from torrent bearing extension .dmg.

Now can i just click on and it install? or do i have to create an image of if?

If i can just run the downloaded file that would be superb if not kindly guide me how to make an image file that i can save on an external HD as i dont have a dual layer dvd to burn.

    The OS 10.6 installer will not run in OS 10.5. You can only run it in OS 10.6.

    All Apple computers that can use OS 10.6 can also burn the DVD+DL from this image, so do that. Then you boot to the DVD like all the rest of us do. Once you are started to the DVD, you can upgrade the OS of your internal HDD, or install OS 10.6 on the external HDD.

    "i dont have a dual layer dvd to burn" so go buy one for two bucks... unless you have some goal of not spending one red cent. You surely know you can buy an OS 10.6 DVD for $29. That's cheaper than any OS ever sold, Windows or Mac. It's the price of four meals at MacDonald's.
