Good people go to Heaven, Bad people go to Hell?
There was a 2006 Barna poll that showed that 54% of Americans generally believe that if you're a good person, you'll go to heaven... and if you're bad you'll go to hell. That's the common misconception. Because it's not based on being good, it's based on a relationship... or else none of us would get there.
You might be pretty good.. compared to certain people,
but it's based on God's, "Standard of Good".. not other people.
The Bible says if you've lied once.. Revelation 21:8 says, "All liars will have their part in the lake of fire". If you've stolen once, "no thief will inherit heaven" (1 Corinthians 6:9). If you've lusted (had a sexual desire for someone) once, Jesus says it's the same thing as committing adultery. And no Adulterer will enter the kingdom of heaven. Just ONE time... because (James 2:10) says, "If you offend the law even at one point.. you're guilty of all." That's only 3 of the 10 commandments... If we're gonna be judged by that standard.....
So We'd ALL be guilty.. and NOT innocent right?
So there's a penalty for that sin.
But Jesus paid that penalty.
"The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is
Eternal Life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
(Romans 6:23)
So either you can pay it, or Jesus can.
But see you can't.. cause it takes an ETERNAL God & the blood of Jesus to pay for our sins.
TIME cannot save you. You cannot go anywhere for a certain amount of time to pay for your sins.
You need a relationship with God..
or else (going to heaven) would be like a stranger moving into your house who you don't know. You don't just let anyone move into your house.. you know him/her & they know you. Same thing is true for God. You need to know Him.
@ Brad V.- Jesus spoke more about hell then heaven. Just so you know. :)

Many can't see that we All deserve hell for our transgressions against a Holy, Righteous, Just, and Perfect God. If being "good " were to make us Holy, Righteous, Just, and Perfect, then there would be no need of the shedding of the blood of Jesus. Romans 5:8 " But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

Yes it is so sad! We as Christians don't do enough to put them right though. I don't know whether your question has planted any seeds, but personally I've learnt that posting a question on yahoo is just gonna cause arguments. The people who come on R&S in the main, have heard every reason under the sun, but have made the decision, for the moment anyway, either to follow Him or definitely not to. We need to be living it, having the courage to take this message wherever God places us. (I could very easily be in hospital by the end of today - I really don't want to be - but know I should) We need to have wisdom in who to speak to and when.
God bless

I study this kind of stuff in my free time. There is an active belief that since Satan is evil personified, that Jesus must be goodness personified.
Many people say that faith in Jesus gives you heavenly access, since not even he has gone through life without breaking a rule. If you believe that Jesus is goodness personified, then faith in Jesus means being good to yourself and others. Breaking a single commandment does not mean you are a bad person, so this makes sense.
Remember that the word "faith" could have meant something different back when the Bible was created. These days, the words "faith in Jesus" means "belief in Jesus" to the average believer.
So, in a nutshell, even if you have broken less than half of the commandments, you will go to heaven if you are good hearted (or so I assume). I do not want to theorize too much, so I will stop the answer here...

seems like many who agree with you did not read your entire question and this is very sad as people are making all their life decisions on the pre conceived prejudices and two line sound bites. You make it very clear what you are saying and God does receive 100% of all sinners who call upon his mercies for forgiveness and refuses 100% of all who have rejected HIm. The Line is in the sand and you are on one side or the other and your goodness has little to do with what side of the line you are on. But having come to Christ and crossing the line let us behave in a way that will bring glory to God and draw men to the light.

*** it-1 p. 862 Forgiveness ***
Moreover, forgiving others for personal offenses, regardless of the number of times involved, is a Christian requirement. (Lu 17:3, 4; Eph 4:32; Col 3:13) God’s forgiveness is not extended toward those who refuse to forgive others. (Mt 6:14, 15) However, even when serious wrongdoing leads to expulsion of “the wicked man” from the Christian congregation, that person may in due time be accorded forgiveness if he proves that he is truly repentant. At that time all in the congregation can confirm their love for him. (1Co 5:13; 2Co 2:6-11) However, Christians are not required to forgive those who practice malicious, willful sin with no repentance. Such become God’s enemies.—Heb 10:26-31; Ps 139:21, 22.
It is proper to pray for God’s forgiveness in behalf of others, even for an entire congregation. Moses did so respecting the nation of Israel, confessing their national sin and asking forgiveness, and he was favorably heard by Jehovah. (Nu 14:19, 20) Also, Solomon, at the dedication of the temple, prayed that Jehovah might forgive his people when they sinned and then turned back from their wrong course. (1Ki 8:30, 33-40, 46-52) Ezra acted representatively in confessing publicly the sins of the repatriated Jews. His heartfelt prayer and exhortation had the result that the people took action in order to receive Jehovah’s forgiveness. (Ezr 9:13–10:4, 10-19, 44) James encouraged the spiritually sick one to call for the older men of the congregation to pray over him, and “if he has committed sins, it will be forgiven him.” (Jas 5:14-16) However, there is “a sin that does incur death,” sin against the holy spirit, a deliberate practice of sin for which there is no forgiveness. A Christian should not pray for those sinning in this way.—1Jo 5:16; Mt 12:31; Heb 10:26, 27; see SIN, I; SPIRIT.

i am sorry but you got it all wrong the Holy Bible/Scriptures did not mention that mankind will be saved based on 'relationship'. here is what the Scriptures say about the judgment: And I (John the writer of the Revelation of Jesus Christ) saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne (of God), and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds. And death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. [Revelation 20:12-15]
you have to keep an open heart and mind to be able to appreciate the word of God in the Holy Bible/Scriptures. mankind will be judged by God according to their deeds. here is the main reason why mankind was created by God: For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. [Ephesians 2:10] meaning mankind was created in Christ Jesus, the Begotten God and Son of the Father Almighty in heaven, for good works to fellow mankind according to God's will and commandments and not according to the things in the world. "Do not love the world, nor the things of the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world." [1 John 2:15-16]
we have to do good works to/for others with faith in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. "And without faith it is impossible to please Him (God), for he who comes to God must believe that He is (God), and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him." [Hebrews 11:6]
i hope you can analyze this answer with biblical logic, also others who will read.
to God be the glory!

And all of that reduces to: Gandhi goes to hell because he didn't believe, and Jeffrey Dahmer is in heaven because he found Jesus in prison.
That's why 54% of Americans think good people go to heaven and bad people go to hell. Simplistic as the notion of good and bad people may be, it at least makes sense.
EDIT-- I wonder how Jesus managed squeeze all those sermons about hell in with all those "The kingdom of God is like..." sermons. I could be wrong, but it doesn't make sense on the face of it.

i've got in common terms been a catholic for some years yet i'm exceedingly valuable that we do not have self belief interior the rapture. We have self belief that as quickly as Jesus comes returned, this is going to be a public judgement. despite if we do pass to Heaven that day, our judgement would be public and in front of anybody to work out. ok Heaven is going to be a lots lots extra ideal place to pass permit me tell ya. Hell is an particularly very frightening state to be in. as quickly as you're there, there is not any turning returned. you will on no account be able to go into Heaven ever returned, and that's for all eternity. i'd take this very heavily. do you prefer to go through for all eternity? does not sound so relaxing for me. Gospel of Matthew 22:a million-14 "Jesus returned in respond spoke to the administrative priests and the elders of the individuals in parables saying, “the dominion of heaven could be likened to a king who gave a marriage dinner occasion for his son. He dispatched his servants to summon the invited travellers to the dinner occasion, yet they refused back. A 2nd time he sent different servants, saying, ‘tell those invited:“Behold, I even have arranged my dinner occasion, my calves and fattened livestock are killed, and each thing is waiting; come to the dinner occasion.”’ some ignored the invitation and went away, one to his farm, yet another to his corporation. something laid carry of his servants, mistreated them, and killed them. The king replaced into enraged and sent his troops, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city. Then the king suggested to his servants,‘The dinner occasion is waiting, yet people who have been invited weren't worth back. pass out, hence, into the main roads and invite to the dinner occasion whomever you come across.’ The servants went out into the streets and accrued all they got here across, undesirable and good alike, and the corridor replaced into crammed with travellers. yet whilst the king got here in to fulfill the travellers he observed a guy there no longer wearing a marriage garment. He suggested to him,‘My pal, how is it which you got here in right here without a marriage garment?’ yet he replaced into decreased to silence. Then the king suggested to his attendants,‘Bind his palms and ft, and solid him into the darkness exterior, the place there will be wailing and grinding of tooth.’ Many are invited, yet few are chosen.”

All you have to do is repent, lulz.
Can you tell me how many times HELL is mentioned in the bible? If heaven is all throughout the bible why is HELL not? Why give "hints" of lake of fire and other crap.
