    That hat was a talking-point !

''It was the hat that received almost as much press as the Royal Wedding couple themselves but Princess Beatrice’s hat has sold for a whopping £81,100.01 yesterday.

Despite much sniggering from press and the public, the Princess decided to put the Phillip Treacy hat on eBay to raise money for Unicef and Children in Crisis.

She herself commented that, “I’ve been amazed by the amount of attention the hat has attracted. It’s a wonderful opportunity to raise as much money as possible for two fantastic charities. I hope whoever wins the auction has as much fun with the hat as I have.”

Around 40 bidders were involved in upping the price from its opening bid of £5,000 which was made by Dragons Den star Duncan Bannatyne who said, “For once I don’t mind if I don’t walk away with the deal.”

In Princess Beatrice's book ... there is nothing worse than to not be talked about by others. Here we are today still talking about her ... thanks to the hat of course.

It was a funny looking, unique thing, but it got people talking and I didn't find it appalling...

I like unusual fascinators when they are well-designed and flattering. That one wasn't.

it certainly made an impression! (BTW: I liked, too. Even though my first response was: "OMG! WTF is that on her head!?"

that's half the fun of British events: the hats & facinators the ladies wear.
