if i kill a queen ant will it stop a colony from starting?
i found an ant crawling across my floor so i killed it and im almost positive it was a queen. will there be any more ants? and did i stop a colony from starting?

well you have kept "that" queen from starting a nest, chances are it was infertile to begin with, but you must have a nest somewhere that queen came from and more than like many more ants that might at some point show up.

A new queen ant will have wings and she looks for a place to start a colony. She kicks her wings off when she finds a place. Then she makes a nest and lays eggs.
A queen that lays eggs stays in the colony and is very big and she does not leave. The other ants feed her and take care of her. You saw a big worker ant.

That will depend on what specie you killed there are some that look like queens like the carpenter ants.
